I know they are shiny, i know they have the highest MOI and are the longest / most forgiving / workable clubs ever......BUT.....why do we buy the latest
equipment these days ???

My view is this , with the current rate of new releases, 2nd hand or last years reduced models will become the way forward. Whats the point of buying
a Scotty Cameron "Calafornia" putter, when the old Newport 2 is just as good ? And, I bet you a pound to a penny that if an amature swings
at the same speed , due to inconsistencies in strike, their will be no disernable change in average distance between a Ping G10 and a Ping G15.

I'm just thinking ..........why pay megabucks for a TM R9, when you can pick up last years burner model from AG for £100, or the Nike Symo STR-8 fit for £127 from online golf ??

I genuinely think the new golf equipment bubble is about to burst.
 
I think it's burst. As a new golfer, I bought shiny new irons, but all my woods/drivers etc. are last years models all for < £100.
If i'm smart enough to figure out that there's no discernible difference between last years and this years models then I'm sure the old schoolers are. (and this is ably demonstrated by the low single figure golfers at my club all play with G5's / old blades etc.)
Only the lure of 'new shiny' and 'I actually have disposable income' Would prompt anybody to buy this years models.
 
I suppose that if you have custom fitting done the chances are you'll have to have new clubs.
But in that case, if they are the correct clubs they should last you a long time.
 
I thought I was cured this year, as my bag was pretty set.

I had reached the stage where I could walk through AG, and pass the club section with no worries. A swish of a putter, a quick look at a driver, a shake of the head, and walk on to the shoes. Mmmm, shoes.

Actually the clothes sectiobn has held my interest for a while, rather than the clubs.

Then Online golf offered me a STR8 for £97. Damn. Beware spam emails from online golf sellers. Before I knew what happened, it is in the bag. First resolution broken. 909 has gone, in with the new.

Now, my bag is fixed. Well, when I finally decide on a shaft for the STR8 anyway (maybe tonight, who knows?).

I don't now plan on changing anything in my bag for a while, and just want to concentrate on getting my h/cap down. I don't think chopping and changing kit is going to help with that, and the kit that I have is way good enough for me to play well with for the foreseeable future.
 
I only have bought brand new wedges everything else is either second hand ex demo or last years model was bored after xmas and was going to buy some new clubs but could not find anything better than what i have so happy at the moment.

No chance.

If people (including myself) spent the money they spend on shiny new kit on golf lessons, we'd all be better golfers.

If we spent the time we spend looking at shiny new kit on practising our short games, we'd be even better.
 
This is the reason I am going for the I5 irons, I think they are every bit as good if not better than either the G10 or I10 and if I spent £450 on the G/I 15 range I would be worried about scratching them or damaging them, though they do look nice.
 
I find a set of clubs that works for me and keep them and when i do want to change them i want to get a new or nearly new set so they are shiny and dont look like the have been dragged through every bit of rough the previous player that had them. the only exception is my putter which gets changed weekly.

Hmmm....

Why do people buy brand new Ferraris or Porches at £130K+ when they can have several Mondeos?... Ego :D
 
I bought a shiney new set of custom fitted Mizuno MX200's early last year.
I am already considering changing them.....




for two carp rods and a bivvy

You'll probably hit the carp rods better than the MX200's
 
Iv posted some topics about changing clubs but if im honest im mad to get rid of mine for the new Wilsonstaff FG Tour Irons....(big wilson fan)
Even though i know that there is nothing wrong with what i have they've served me well for the past few years id still like to change then....
 
Hi kid,

I was lucky enough to be selected to get custom fit for a set of Wilson Staff irons for the GM long term test feature and chose the FG tour irons. They are quite simply superb!!!!
I think the review is due to go out in the May edition.

They will definitely be staying in my bag.
