new gear . . . . .why???

As a former gear addict I think the lure comes from the confidence of standing with a shiny new stick in your hand. Of course its only smoke and mirrors and never really hides any swing flaws, but just for a short while, you actually feel that you can really play the game.

I think TM and Cally in particular have latched onto a niche by sending out subtle upgrades of existing models every six months to capture the imagination of the buying public and the fact that they continue to do so must indicate there is the unit sales to support this decision.

For me, my addiction to shiny new bats is rescinding but like Murph my shoe fetish remains strong especially the lure of creating my own desingns via FJ's Myjoy site.

I have an economy bag - the dearest club in it is the 5-wood, which I rarely use; everything else was at reduced or silly prices. But, you can still be lured into a newer or different precious . . .

If the said kit is the right kit to improve then that's a good enough reason for me. On the other hand people that replace their kit just to keep upto date are pathetic.

How can you improve and play consistant golf changing kit every 12 months?

I will only buy what's right for me regardless of how old/what model they are.

I bought a shiney new set of custom fitted Mizuno MX200's early last year.
I am already considering changing them.....




for two carp rods and a bivvy

I'll do you a deal for one carp rod and a shimano free spool reel

Don't sit on the fence.

I don't subscribe to the idea that changing your kit is going to make you better (unless you have the wrong thing like Seniors spec or X-stiff shafts) but then again I don't see why swapping stuff is going to stop you being consistent and/or improving.
I've swapped my rescue club 3 times, each time I've found the new club better than the previous. I'm sticking with what I have now....but it did take some trial and error. One's been sold and I could swap the other two in/out of the bag without feeling a lack of consistency.

Hi kid,

I was lucky enough to be selected to get custom fit for a set of Wilson Staff irons for the GM long term test feature and chose the FG tour irons. They are quite simply superb!!!!
I think the review is due to go out in the May edition.

They will definitely be staying in my bag.

Thats great Rick....I am aware that off my handicap they may hurt me but i would persevere with them if i knew that i could control them....They look sooooo nice....

The deposit is down on them since today and our season really gets into swing in march so ill keep the Di7's as a buffer just in case

Hard to answer conclusively. The first one never worked for me (failed internet purchase), the second was quite beautiful strike-wise but I kept leaking it right too often, the current one is ace.
I sometimes put the old one in the bag as I think it's a better club t.b.h. I seem to be able to swap without fuss....but I still push or fade the old one more than the new.

I often swap drivers, I tend to fall back on the 13* benny when I know I'm not swinging well. Otherwise the W/S Spine gets the nod.

When I look down at a club, I don't worry what I'm looking at. I have a 4 iron that doesn't match my set and it's probably the most reliable club in my bag.

I realise I'm odd.

I wouldnt say odd Dave id say realistic as i think that too many players are playing with stuff that there favourite pro is playing and that im sad to say includes me...
I dont have a problem with the clubs im playing even though ive had my fair share of drivers in the search that ill find the magic on.....As for my irons there soon to be changed...Who knows what the new ones will bring.
