On flicking through the varied new posts latey something caught my attention....Its just an obsevation now at most nothing alarming or anything but ill take Seveb just as a model...
Here we have a new chap keen to get a start on the forum and true to form his first post is to introduce himself and say hello....Nothing wrong with that...
What i find odd is for the amount of people that use this facility and for the praise that everyone gives it, it always seems to be the same 2 dozen or 3 dozen that welcome a new face.... Why is this?
Is it just because some people couldn't be #*sed or is it just a slight ignorance on their behalf....
I myself am very friendly and very approachable and would talk with anyone given the chance and then make my decision on what they are like....
The reason being is there have been well over 200 view of SeveB's post and only a handful of replies....Surely if someone takes the time to read a new post the least they could do is say Hello and Welcome....

Just a thought.

Mike.

It's a good point Mike.
I guess some people just like to read and not get involved and others, you cant shut them up.
There has been lots of people joining the forum recently so maybe some are getting fed up saying hi and welcome.
I dont think there's anything wrong with it, it's just the way some people are.

I would always be willing to welcome a newbie, but what my thoughts are, and I'm sure I'm not the only person, is that why bother wasting a post if a good selection of people have already said what is required, i.e Feel free to get involved, its a great place, welcome in etc. If I'm online when someone posts their introductory thread, then I will reply and give them my welcome greetings. I think however if I am not around when someone signs up, it is best left to those online at the time to say hello on behalf of the other forumers. Rather than everyone posting at a later date to simply say 'hello' or repeating what has already been said in regard to them being most welcome, and free to dive straight in and get involved.

Thats my thoughts on the matter anyway!

I've not seen the post but I must admit that I find people posting just to say hello is a bit odd. If you post on a regular basis, people will find out who you are anyway.

I also have nights where I don't feel like posting comments but love to read other peoples views on whatever they feel important.

With the exception of one person who occassionally takes offence to anything Homer says, I find everyone is really friendly anyway and always willing to give really good advice from their experience.

The people on here make it one of the best forums around although a couple of improvements to the site wouldn't go a miss.

Point taken guys maybe i was just a bit too hasty.
And i have to agree with the eagle hunter in that at least if your online you can say hi but if you havent been on for a few days maybe the greetings from other posts say enough.

Nothong wrong with the post neil it was just an obsevation by me thats all and iv nothing against anyone just wanting to read posts but all i was saying was that some people could be a tad more welcoming towards new faces.
Maybe im just over-reacting a bit....

I think the guys above have made valid points Mike.

Quite rightly new forumers should be welcomed (heck, even I have done it on the odd occasion), but if I'm a day or two late in seeing the post then I don't bother as others have already done the necessary and my post would be superfluous.

As an aside, many threads get hundreds of views but only a handful of replies. This is probably a good thing as otherwise it would be a full time job just reading everything :) :)

As a newbie I can honestly say that i have been made very welcome to the site, It does seem to me the same face replying to questions but as said not everyone feels it their place to comment on stuff

In general I read the posts introducing new forumers but do not reply every time. If they are local to me then I make particular effort to say hello but otherwise I look at the number of replies. If loads of forumers have said hello already then I take the view that a decent welcome has been given and tend not to post. If there are not many replies at the time then I add my welcome.

Slightly off topic, but does your "TOTAL begineer" status include spelling. Our is it with tongue in cheek.
:) :)

Oops

Priceless!! Have to be honest, it makes me LARF everytime someone moans about spelling and has a big frikkin' typo in their moan. If I had a pound for every.....

Recently, when there was a spate of a lot of new forummers somebody cleverly said, "welcome to all the newbies".

Sometimes there are just too many to reply to, and I take most others views, particularly Eaglehunters, if on the forum at the time - reply, otherwise enough has already been said.

One thing I'd like to add though, if the newbie starts off with a really good and interesting opening post, it will always attract more replies. But no offence to anybody that doesn't say a lot.

Golfmmad.

Point taken Golfmmad.
And can i just say that im delighted with the response from everyone. Thats what makes this forum the best......The diversity of opinions.... :D
