Friendly fourball yesterday, me, off 9, a 5 handicapper & two off 12. The five handicapper birdied the first & third. I birdied 4, then opponent off 12 birdied 5. I then went birdie 4, par 4, eagle 3, birdie 3. After 9 holes my 12 handicap partner I are 2 down. Coming back, the opposition 12 man got birdie 2 on 10, I holed a huge putt for 2 on 13 & we came to 17 all square, with shots for the 12 handicappers on either side. All they could manage was a 5 nett 4 but I had holed a massive curly putt from off the front of the green for a birdie 3. I just missed birdie on 18 but all we needed was a par to win, having never been ahead until 17.

We were playing a full length course off yellows, probably playing longer than in the summer. Between us, we had 2s on all four par threes & my mate calculated my score at around 1 over, although I wasn't counting. Never had a match like that before.

Yes, very nice on those rare occasions (for me anyway), when it all comes together. Makes you feel all smiley inside. :)

I remember a doubles knockout semi final from way back
Me, off 8, and my mate off 14 played a 7 and a 9.
My mate was the worst scorer - we reckoned he was 4 over gross...
And we still lost!

I think many people score really well in matchplay when they get into the match.

The lesson here is this, you have the physical tools to shoot par, you need to practise FOCUS on ONE shot at a time *Like pretty much every golfer on earth. In matchplay you give the shot you are looking at right now 100% and do not think about being 1 under par for 11 etc...

Bill, when me and Baghead smashed it the other week, me with 42 pts and him with a paltry 41. We both kinda pushed one another along. We both played good golf and set a standard. It was nice being in the zone. In the eighteen holes we played we/I shot one double bogey. On the 17th.
odd thing is next round I played I shot 41 points and my only double bogey was on the 18th when me 25 ft putt finshed 2" behind the hole.
Good golf me man.

In a BB knockout match this summer just gone I ended up needing to hole a chip on 18 (just to make their 12hc hole a 3' putt for the match) which would have seen me score 69 with my own ball.

We reckoned the worst scorer in the match was the 3hc oppo who shot 75.

Played a club scratch KO against a decent Assistant Pro [the Pros were allowed to play in that event].
I chipped in three times, the last being the 18th to win.......he was not a happy chappy.
