I took my son down the club tonight and played 9 holes.
I give him 4 shots a hole and he beat me 7 holes to 2.
I won 1 and 4.
He had a 9 on the par3 first and a 12 on the par 5 4th.
On the par3 5th he had a 5
On the par3 6th he had a 5
On the par 4 7th he had his first ever par
A 5 on the par 3 8th and a 6 on the par 3 9th.
All these were off the yellows apart from the 5th 6th and 8th which were off
the red and white tees.
He is 7 years old
Pretty impressed with that.

Great work mate

Was that his first time out on the course? Those scores at that age are excellent (the 12 aside)

No he has hit balls since the age of 2 but only about 5 times a year.
This year is his first year where he has taken it seriously and we have been to the
course about 12 times so far.
He has also had 2 group session out of the 5 he has booked.
The key is he enjoys it and I just give him pointers when needed, other than that
I just let him crack on.
Trust me though Homer it doesn't always go that well.

Thing is, dad has been playing a lot longer and it doesn't always go that well for him! Great to see him getting into it and having fun and I think letting him get on with it is key. I've seen so many pushy parents, trying to coach their kids and sucking the life out any enjoyment the kid may get

Your right there.
I take my kids swimming twice a week and theres a guy who takes his.
They are about 9 and 12 when mine are 5 and 7 but he is brutal and I have seen them
crying a few times.
To be honest he a massive bully and ive nearly stepped up a couple of times.
But is it really anything to do with me? I think not,but I don't like it.

Sounds like you're doing a great job just letting him enjoy it.

It's one thing to not be the best player in your club, but something else to not even be the best player in your own house ;)

Great stuff. My boy (11) has been pushing me to take him to the club for a while. I relented and took him to the local 9 holer a few weeks ago, mainly with the intention of putting him off for a few years. I knew I'd made a mistake when he nutted a 7 iron to 10ft on the 100 yard 7th. 2 putt Par and a look that we would all recognise. Now he's joined my club and is addicted !!!!

Nice one mate hope he continues to enjoy it.

Great to see some dads getting their lads/kids into golf

You boys will be the high handicapper in your own houses before long

Tough one. Seen it at football, cricket and rugby, and at the range. What can you do? It isn't right but unless they are hurting the kid in some way you can't really get involved

My 8 yo daughter has had her first lesson 2 weeks ago, we've been to the range a few times over the winter, and the practice ground at my club a couple time since her lesson.

Wednesday night she hit 50 balls at the practice ground, 45 with her 7 iron and the last 5 with her driver (bought her a half set for christmas)

I'd say with the 7 iron she probably hit about 20 good ones, then she nailed 3 out of 5 with driver, all over 100 yards, and with a big grin on her face.

I reckon she'll be beating me before too long
