I just noticed that the EG golf calculator uses rounding in the CH calc whereas my club handicap software doesn't.

I accept that this won't be a problem in most cases as we follow the handicap system unrounded values for most part for all club medals, stablefords etc.

And for general play it's generally accepted by all to use rounded values. Hence why I suspect EG app uses rounded values.

However, if someone uses the my EG app to calc CH for matchplay then surely this would be incorrect and misleading wouldn't it?

In matchplay, with the odd exception of Greensomes, rounded CH is used.

Your Course Handicap is an integer.
There is no reason to ever see it's unrounded value (that is used by competition software for most Playing Handicap calculations); but (as D-S has noted) most match play allowances use the rounded value.
Also, for practical purposes, if PH calculations are being done manually (i.e. not by competition software) in any format, the rounded value may be used.

And yes, MyEG is for general play, so Course Handicap is the one it is concerned with.

Some people will naturally use the EG app to calculate their CH/PH if they were playing in a comp ( especially not on their home course)

You can end up with different PH's, hence can be misleading.

It's a shame it's not consistent and if not then my EG should really show both values imo.

There's no accounting for what "some people" will do.

The committee in charge of the comp are responsible for applying handicap allowances, almost always with the aid of software, and should advise players of their PH accordingly.

As far as possible, EG do not want players calculating their own CH/PH but when it's unavoidable, that calculation should be as simple as possible (i.e. using rounded values).

We were advised at latest WHS/EG forum to state in your T of Cs where CH for match play should be taken from - eg app, HI/CH table printed from WHSplatform.

I don't see why the EG app simply doesn't show the unrounded values so everybody uses the same CH/PH in all situations.

People shouldn't really need to do any manual calculations, just look it up.

95% of 7.5 is not the same though as 95% of 8 ( 7.5 rounded) Can make a shot difference.

Stroke play competitions are commonly run though software which calculates PHs; match play allowances are commonly calculated manually by players on (or near) the tee.

These two statements are contradictory. If no-one is doing manual calculations, they have no need for the unrounded value of their CH.

Why do you want to confuse (most) people by presenting them with a sea of numbers, and increase the probability of errors when they try to use those numbers?

Better would be to replace "Playing Handicap" with "Stroke Allowance/Strokes Received".

THE W.H.S. FORMULA FOR AN 18-HOLE DAILY HANDICAP = ((GA Handicap x Slope Rating ÷ 113) + (Scratch Rating minus Par)) x 0.93.

The GA is the equivalent of HI.

That's the document I have but couldn't find that table. That's the problem with skimming

According to @AussieKB, these allowances are ignored by most (all) clubs, meaning players just use their Daily Handicap in all/most formats.
