Our course for the last two weeks has invested/ hired a machine that is just smashing all the rough to bits. It has took the lot down to 1-2". It has given up its dead to be reborn.
Last Tuesday me and Baghead were walking from our first green to second tee and we both got thirty plus balls apiece nearly all of them had to be prized out with a pitch repairer. When we got to the 8th They were cutting back the Lhs. I got another 20 plus balls. On Thursday last week we both got another 30 Plus balls each.
The other week me and Melly played full throttle at our place, mellys back has gone and he has been off work since. He called on Monday to see if he could have a walk with us. I told him to bring a carrier bag. On Tuesday he found over 200 golf balls he was that fed up he left all Rammel balls ( Dunlop, pinnacle, Spalding etc) on paths where they could be picked up by others.
Played today and Melly has found another 150 balls. When we finished the round and I put me bats in the car, Melly gave me a bag with the balls I use ( ad 333, tour, Z star, Qstar ) there were 59 and they were all cleaned up. Some had to be chucked away what he had cleaned up as the machine had chewed them up. In the last two weeks I have taken hold of 80 plus balls I can use
Baghead has all the Titliest pro V1, 1x, soft feels. Etc. He also has about 80 plus,
Trevino has the bridge stones and Wilson staff, he has about 50.
Melly has all the Velocity's, Dt solos, nxt and a few others. All in all in the last two weeks we have found over 500 balls with another 150 to be cleaned up by Melly.
Gutted coz the Flippin machine is going back tomorrow.
So what's the most balls you have found.

When I first saw the thread I thought very smugly about the 5 balls I found on the 10th last weekend in the same 10ft diameter circle where my ball had also come to rest in the rough..

Then I read your post, that's crazy!

I'll pick up the odd dlouzen every now and then when I'm being held up and get bored - but as I have over 3000 in washing baskets in the shed I have to keep reminding myself not to bother!

However, in the true spirit of this thread, many years ago we played Old Thorns the day after a Japanese event....I had to empty the golf bag at lunch to make room for the afternoons haul - these were all immaculate Professional 90 and 100 Balata balls! Appar3ntly if they missed the fairway they just dropped another and played on.

It was your really lucky day today as your course was taken over yesterday by the Notts Winter Alliance. It would be filled with pros, assistant pros and low amateurs so the ball pickings would be quite rich.

So what are you going to do with your findings. Your golf isn't that bad to warrant that many. Are there any juniors at your place that would appreciate a few decent freebies?

In this game there are finders, losers, and those that break even. I'm still firmly in the losers category!:(

Ironic thing is Homer, I bought two dozen ad333 a month before I went to Portugal and then bought another 18 off one of the locals on the course for €10. Think al have a word with Richard in the club shop on Thursday re that one homer 👍 Not a bad idea at all. Our place does a lot of work with the local skools and are always losing balls.

mr Rosecott, I did not know about the Notts lot turning up yesterday until Baghead mentioned it during the round. When we played Tuesday the greens were dripping wet and it was a right old battle trying to read putts. Yesterday weather was just perfect for them. When we played today the greens had dried out and were running gorgeous. Would be interesting to see what they thought of it. I believe 40 points won it.

Most I have found in a day was at at one of Smiffy's Forum meets at Cooden when I was in the group behind Slasher (PNWokingham). If memory serves, it was about 19........

I find the odd one now and again but rarely go into the deep do-do. And if my ball goes in to the mega thick stuff I don't bother going in after it.

As a junior playing through the school holidays if I was bored after the 3 rounds in the day and lots of practice I'd put my waterproofs on and crawl through the thick forest next to the course. 30 or 40 balls later I'd reappear.

I don't the know the answer to the OP but I was amazed how many I picked up at the H4H day at Camberley, even immediately after my first drive which I hooked over to the practice area I picked up 3 new ProV's along the tree line and continued to pick up quite a few good quality balls all mainly unmarked around the course.

I finished with the same ball I started with which was amazing at times because of where I drove it to at times but we always found it along with many other balls in the immediate vicinity.

I'm normally delighted if I come back having found more balls than I've lost! The most 'in profit' I've ever been is only like 3 or 4 though. :mmm:

At the 9-hole I used to frequent oop north the 5th was quite tight, with trees all the way down the right hand side, in line with the edge of the tee box. The trees on the left only went 100 yards or so and it opened right out. The play, as a high handicapper was to embrace the slice and fire it out to the left and let it cut back in. But you that involved some thought, and most folks didn't think. The result was a wooded area full of balls. I used to take my son out with me and he would love that hole. He'd find 20 or 30 at a go in there. Usually dunlop/top flight, but the odd Callaway and Titleist too. Kept me in balls. Now I'm at a course where people seem to lose a lot less and I lose a lot more! :(

I think it's weird to find that many in one area. That sort of implies that not one of the 20-30 people who hit those balls actually bothered to even half-look for it?? Even just popping your head in you'd surely find 2 or 3 of them.

I am guessing there are a lot of golfers on here who will not know what balata balls were!

I found 5 x perfect condition Pro V1 and Srixon AD333's once in a bush at Oulton Hall. I was chuffed to bits. That was my best haul but I am feeling a bit pathetic now. I'm always happy to come out on top in a round but at my home course the lost balls tend to be permanently lost so it is not a great course for finding balls.

Most would have to be at Tain a few years ago when they were cutting the broom back with a big machine. there were balls everywhere, hundreds. had so many ended up making little piles of non prem balls by the tee on almost every hole as i sorted out the best ones to keep.

One occasion where ive been behind a big group or yanks and found 30 brand new Prov 1's

another was behind a Mazda corp day and found 20 brand new TM lethal all with the Mazda logo on..
