Another good start to a test today, despite a little wag in the tail from Johnson & Siddle. The "experts" are saying it's a 4 day pitch so we really need to bat them out of the game with our first innings.

Tremlett was a more than able replacement for Broad. :D

Catches win matches.....belter from Collingwood

Another good day for England, maybe a little dissapppointed they didn't roll them over for under 250 but to get through to close unscathed is massive in trying to amass a big 1st innings lead.

Any thoughts Dodger??? you've said nowt since day 1 :D

I read that Stuart Broad had retuned home with a bad side. Strange because he only has a 2 bedroom house, so where are all those Aussies going to sleep??

Yes not a bad day, like to have got them out for less considering we had them not many for 5. Hussey and Haddin batted well, but Siddle and Johnson should not have got the runs they did. England’s day none the less.

England just need to bat the same as the last test now, 600 +.

I read Justin Langer’s (Australian Batting Coach) column on the BBC cricket page and he gave a good account of how to bat at the WACA. Shame none of the Aussie Top order chose to read it…
:D :D

Wow, tough, tough day has changed things around big time. What a spell from Johnson!!!

The 4day pitch looks a bit far off at the moment. Really need to skittle them out quickly as anything over 220 will be a big ask in the 4th innings on this pitch.

Not happy at all. Should never have let Johnson get 60 odd. Gave him a huge boost in confidence and he bowled with that. Need to get them out for as few as possible or bat out the draw and get to the next test still in the lead. I blame all these news casters and sports reporters saying all day yesterday that England will retain the ashes in this test.

"hello, can I speak to kevin pieterson please?" "I'm sorry, he's just gone out to bat. will I get him to call you back?" "No, it's ok, I'll just wait"

You can always rely on England to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. They had their foot on the throat of the Aussies and they loosened off enough for it to get up and bite them.

Nothing like the observations of the casual viewer...

That would be Pietersen who scored 200+ in the last match then...

Yes, England would have wanted Aus out for 200-220 but Johnson and Hussey both scored well and remind me where they play their club cricket...?

The pitch clearly quickened overnight and Johnson is prone to the odd spell of destruction. If they can get Aus out with the lead no more than 350, England can still win this. They are unlikely to play as many poor shots as the 1st innings and I'll be surprised if Johnson bowls as well 2nd time out.

An interesting Test match though. To suggest England are once again snatching defeat from the jaws of victory is frankly ridiculous. Bowling a team out for 268 on day 1 is not, and never has been, the jaws of victory.

Hussey has practically single handedly put Australia right back in this series, another classy knock.

Anyone think it may snow in Perth overnight so we can weather it out for a draw??

Games up in this one I'm afraid. Hope the team don't go into their shell after this and try and defend the 1-1 series position and play for two draws. I think they are still capable of winning either of the remaining tests but need to find a bit of belief with the bat again

They need to take heart from only 2 aussies scoring in the 2nd innings and just accept a bad day at the office with the bat. Mind you, I've never been able to understand how Johnson's action is considered legal when his arm barely gets above his ear.

Hopefully the rocket that Flower should be giving Anderson for failing to take that single will get him fired up for the next Test.I Guarantee they'll have dropped in a non-turning pitch for Melbourne.

Also hopefully they'll have worked out where not to bowl to Hussey by then too!

Not bad!!

Reckon a full day of batting tomorrow should see us with a healthy 350 run lead and then bowl them all out the day after....simples! :D

Even though I am a Yorkshire man I do not understand test match cricket and the way it is played, can anyone enlighten me, I don't understand follow on's and how matches can be draws.
