HID got me a 6 pack of sharpies. So a black dot, then colour the dots around it with different colours. Looks a bit like a flower, I guess.

I used to mark mine with a big M but changed when I went into a bunker when being called through. I found one of the other group in the same bunker, with same type of ball, same number and a big M.

I now mark mine with 6 black dots in a hexagon. Represents a carbon ring as I work in the chemical industry.

I actually use the roman numerals for the no.4 (IV) as this was the no. i wore all through my football career ever since i was 7 years old.....I was a Centre back before i was retired through injury 3 years ago...

I dont think that iv actually met anyone yet that uses this either which is good as its hard to get my ball mixed up with other players.

I mark mine by drawing a small facsimile of the Sistine Chapel ceiling.

(Or, if I haven't got all the right colours, then its just 4 red dots - two above & two below the alignment mark)

Sad person alert!!

I mark the whole box when I get them.

3 dots in a triangle below the number on each side, but I have 3 different coloured pens and do each ball in a sleeve with a different colour.
That way I have 12 completely different balls (colour/number) and I don't need to worry about marking provisionals differently.

Big black blob over the number on both sides, that way I don't have to remember what number ball I'm playing.

Same as Rory but I was doing it before he was even born :whoo:

Thanks Jezz just an incident in one of the other threads where one of the guys found a ball with the same name & number as he was using , only for his playing partner to say his had actualy gone in about 20 yards further up , & they found his ball where the guy said ..

Sorry to drift a bit here , on the 1st tee we tell the guys the ball & marking we are using ? (ie Titlest 1 black dot beside the number) are we obliged to do this ? is this a rule or just courtsey ? we always do it anyhow ..

Not a rule, but just courtesy and again common-sense really to avoid any potential 'incidents' or confusion

I mark a new ball before each round, blue line along the pro v 1 arrow thing on the side and the a 3 on the other side, thr 3 is done in a way that it could be an m or an e depending on how u look at it, the reason is that I have 3 kids, an Ellie, a Molly and a Matt, so all covered :)

Interesting to note from the poll results that over 10% of people don't mark their ball

So what happens when you find a similar make and number of ball in the rough close to where you hit yours, you just play it anyway regardless??

I order mine printed 3 dozen at a time with a logo the same as my avatar printed on them. I then sort them out so each sleeve has the same number and colour each a different colour so I have a blue, red and green number 1 etc. That way I can say on the tee I'm playing nike 1 red dot, then hit provisional with nike 1 and a green dot, or red dot number 4! This way I reduce the risk of reloading with the same number and colour.
