Mini drivers - just a fad?

I quite liked the Callaway Xhot deep. don't have one, but will be my next purchase if i carry on this way with the driver.

when i tried one it went the same distance as a driver, but i could hit it off the deck as well.

it must be me as I've never understood "taking a 3 wood for accuracy" i hit my driver alot better than my 3 wood. i only take a 3 wood off the tee when I'm going to run out room or laying up short of a hazard

Have a game with me one day - it'll be educational..😀👍

Been thinking about taking an inch off my driver but haven't been brave enough to cut the shaft yet, was also going to fit a MCC4+ midsize grip. I've read the swing weight will change, do you notice any difference with just butt cutting the shaft?

Hi Pool888!

I took an inch off my stock shaft R Flex TaylorMade Aeroburner Driver to make it 44.5 inches. It is also a Driver size head but has 15 degrees of loft on. I put on a Lamkin Crossline grip. I think swingweight (unless it is to extremes) is not that important in a driver but the total weight and the dynamic feel of the club are, to me, the most important aspects. Being short in stature by Yankeeland standards (5 foot 8 inches) - I have found this to be a great help and no loss of distance but improved my accuracy 12-15% with the Driver. I say it is definitely worth doing.

Regards,

I remember the smaller headed drivers back in the day and struggled with them when they got bigger and have never really been comfortable with them since, maybe I should try a mini driver :) any recommendations?

?

This seems to have been ignored but I appreciated it 👏👏👏

Guy at our place has a TM mini driver still in the bag and to be brutally honest he's as erratic as a normal model. It was clearly a fad as there was a host of them all at once and now not a mention and we're back to the big dog with a big price tag

Still have mine in the bag, find i'm a lot more consistent off the tee with it than my driver, doesn't go as far but better to on the short stuff than 30 yards further in the hay.

I couldn't get the hang of it off of the deck to start with, topping a lot but that was down to my swing more than anything esle, now after some more lessons and a slight change to my swing I can pick it off the deck quite well.

I have one of these, though I don't think they do a 3 deep in the newer XR 16 range. It's a great club and I really only carry a driver for ornamental decoration as I can hit this so much more consistently and almost always further.

Feels a bit less enjoyable when your mates all hit driver from the tee but that soon disappears when you have hit as far as them if not further and are nicely in the fairway.

Still use my Big Bertha Mini when the driver is misbehaving. Great club and very little difference in distance. In all honesty it should really take the place of the big stock.....
