I tried the Callaway AI Smoke a couple of weeks ago. No longer than my 4 wood off the tee. More to do with me I’m sure but swiftly returned.

I bought the BRNR and topped the forst shot. Got it repaired and never used it since 🤣

The truth is, now 've been fitted for a driver and going well, I see no use for them. Unless a club gets used, it stays out of the bag.

I see it is a driver replacement, unless you can use it off the deck, then it offers more.
agreed....that is why I'm not keen on the current crop which really are just scaled down drivers with deep faces...rather than a 3-wood on steroids

Isn't it really just a case of having a slightly shorter driver shaft (more retro)?
Seems to me the drive for distance has made the drivers too long for the average player to really get the accuracy they really need over being those 4 inches longer.

A little bit of that, but also a bit of "lofting up", with many of the mini driver clubs having 11 or 13/14 degree variants...the latter of which makes them closer to a 2 wood and helps deliver additional accuracy.

All this talk about mini-drivers...I might take my Ping Rapture out with me on Friday....probably have to drop the lob-wedge but that's no hardship in the current soft claggy conditions.

I see I contributed to this earlier in the year, since I have bought a tsr1 driver and its stock length. Head is 9 degrees dialled down by 0.75 degrees so naturally opened. The shaft is stock regular. I have been very happy with it so far and I am looking forward to seeing what it delivers in the summer, but it is currently out performing what I did have optimised.
I thought I would be increasing loft to close the face but that hasn’t been necessary..

The PXG mini driver is out.
Looks nice unlike the price
£460 😳
Save yourself £31...get it from PXG direct for £429

Still a bit on the chunky side for me from the videos...face is a bit deep for use off the fairway....though PXG do talk about a tight leading edge so it might look a bit more forgiving off the deck than its size would otherwise suggest.

Luckily my local independent shop which is just 6 well struck drives from my house (assuming a bit of extended run out along the tarmac roads) has recently started stocking PXG stuff so hopefully I might get a chance to see one in the flesh.

For now though....the 10 year old Rapture will remain my mini-driver of choice.

Save even more and just by a 3 wood 😅
