I wonder if the collective mind of the Golf Monthly Forum can assist me please. When flying abroad with 4 people and golf bags for a long weekend of touristy golf, what hire cars have you found that suit? We once had a large 9 seater mini-bus that was more than plenty big enough. There appear to be options for a Puegeot 5008 or similar. Does anyone have experience of these? Would they carry 4 people. 4 golf travel bags and 4 pieces of hand luggage?

My Insignia used to handle 4 bags in the boot no problem, with 4 passengers, and it wasn't an estate either. You could have the estate version and you'll have space to spare.

Is this car made any more? Rental cars are usually less than 2 years old.

Otherwise it's a good suggestion. I've always been able to fit 4 bags in a large estate like a Mondeo or Insignia.

Another option is a Berlingo (or similar). Zero prestige. If you're sitting in the back, passers by will expect you to start licking the window, but it is practical.

Thanks @sunshine and @Bazz, are you talking about 4 golf bags or 4 travel bags? We would be flying and the travel bags are definitely larger than just a golf bag. I guess that we could take them out of the travel bags but that would mean finding space for those too (slightly more flexibility though).

I'm talking about 4 blokes getting off a plane and fitting all our luggage and golf gear into one vehicle

I agree with your Berlingo shout. Ugly but effective (y) .

Regular cars may be okay with 4 bags alone, not big ones, but add in luggage bags and it starts to get tricky. The added height of the Berlingo gives extra flexibility.

Berlingo's larger load space also helps with the run to the supermarket for the beer.

I would say something like a Transit or VW Caravelle.
There's no issues then with getting all the luggage from the airport to holiday abode.

It's so much easier to just rent a bag of clubs at your destination - for a long weekend, that would be my choice. Get checked in at the departure airport as quickly as possible and hit the airport lounge - happy days.

Don't have first hand experience, but felt the 5008 is like many newer cars where they seem bigger outside than inside.
As others have mentioned but with a twist, the berlingo/rifter/combo also come in a longer wheel base form. As do tourneo/caddy. If you could find the lwb to hire that would help IMO.

I would also be careful as you are in reality hiring a class of car not a specific model, which is shown just as an example - the company might well not have every model they typically use in that class available on the day you arrive.
You need every car in that particular class to be large enough to suit your needs.
