Mince Pies

First of the season, Sainsbury's Taste the Difference mince pie, very pleasant!

Sainsbury TTD brandy ones have gone right downhill this year. Last year you got a strong smell of brandy and you could really taste it, this year they are “ brandy infused “ which is posh for reduced brandy…. Not cool!

Waitrose cognac seem to be top of my list this year although I’m off to m&s tonight.

Had some lovely mince pies this year, but like most things, prices have gone north. Looking forward to the sales to stock the freezer to get me through the lean months.

I was in Tesco's yesterday and all mince pies massively reduced in price
e.g. own brand (or as seen in other shops) 31p a box of 6.

Novelty has worn off again now. I was talking to my mates about mince pies, as a lot of them don't like them. I decided that the fact you only eat them for one month works in their favour. If they were available all year round I'd never get them. But the fact they start appearing in November, I think 'oh, I fancy a bit of that'. Then after a month or so of eating them, I'm done and I don't want anymore for another 11 months. 😄

Currently have a few mini ones left to finish off, not sure if I can be bothered or whether they'll go in the bin.

I got a dozen of the only one's left in Aldi at the weekend, they are the standard range and certainloy not a patch on the all butter 'Specially Selected' range, will do for brew time at work for a couple of weeks.

Made my own this year, after a couple of years without them, I decided that a couldn't do without them this year. First attempt wasn't great, but second batch was great

Oh go on then I'll tell you. I used dried fruit and poured a load of rum over it in a pan. Warmed the lot up and let the fruit soak up the rum. I had to make wholemeal pastry for myself as well. They were great. Hic.
