I am very surprised as he was only 50 something, although its sad to lose a one time genious and he is an example of how to over fill part of your life, at the cost of the rest.
Better double check the corpse though and make sure it isnt Dianna Ross or there will be hell to pay?
I can't help laughing at the 'Looked Pale' gag......priceless!
Having spent the best part of his adult life trying to prevent the ageing process re oxygen tents and masks, it just shows all the money in the world can't prevent the inevitable.
If the reports are true his estate will reap the benefits in hundreds of millions from his back catalogue, previously unpublished recordings and all sorts of memorabilia including the recent sale that never happened. That alone should be worth ten times the amount it was yesterday.
The guy was a kid that never grew up, but at the height of his career as good a performer as any before him. I remember the first time he "moon walked" on TV. People thought he had wheels for feet!
It was a sad life and if the rumours are true, a loss of a great talent.
What will his legacy be though: a truly talented artist or an eccentric misfit with dubious bedtime habits.
Very sad news. He was one of the most gifted performers we will see in our lifetime. OK he had some strange ways about him, but he gave an awful lot to music.
I saw him at Wembley stadium in the 80's. Brilliant concert, and the place was absolutely packed.
RIP Michael

I was 7 when Elvis died and my little on is 6 next week and I am sure he will be heralded as the new Elvis. As has been said earlier, the money he lost and needed in the past couple of years will now flood in. I liked his toons but was never a fan but when all is said and done he was only 11 years older than me.
Correction to my earlier post, it was 1986 when he was in Cardiff Arms Park, the show blew my mind. Being 9 years of age at my first concert, Michael Jackson 'flew' onto the stage with a jet pack for a show I'll never forget.
I hope the media respect his wishes and his childrens identities remain private.
I'm still shocked at the news, the biggest music start of my generation has passed away
I should imagine there'll be many many tributes and covers of his songs performed at Glastonbury this weekend.
Quite a shock hearing that this morning. Like many I found him odd but he did create some pretty good tunes in his prime both solo and as part of the Jackson 5.
Pretty young for a cardiac, didn't look overweight, probably stress related?
Terrible way to greet the world this morning. He was without a doubt one of the most colorful people you'l ever encounter and love him or hate him, the world is a slightly duller place without him. My heart goes out to his children, family and close friends. Rip Michael, Thank you for the music.
Call me a cynic, but since his death was announced last night there have been over 1500 new items listed on eBay including todays newspapers at £1 each.
I am in shock (a little bit). So unexpected early reports seem to indicate CA caused by pain killer overdose which I don't understand as he was with his own personnel doctor at the time (wonder if his name was Dr Shipman, The conspiracy theory's have started already).
I was not the biggest fan but he was responsible for some great tunes and as Madandra has already pointed out (by comparing him to Elvis) these people don't come along to often.
Switched on Beeb breakfast news this morning, and they're talking about how he 'was' a good performer etc. I was thinking, who, what, what's going on?
Jumped on the web, and woah. Jacksons dead!
I was a little surprised.
Okay, I wasn't much into his music, but they're were some outstanding individual tracks, and no doubt there will be a raft of sampled stuff coming out now as well as back catologue stuff / unrealeased stuff.
Though it will be interesting to see over the coming years after the initial media hype has stopped, whether his history will be for his 'weirdness' and 'other' antics or for his music.
No doubting that he made some great music and was very talented, but he just didnt float my boat.
Anyone who hangs a baby over a balcony and calls his son Prince Michael Jackson is a bit like squirrel poo in my book. People balme his upbringing, but all of the other kids turned out fairly normal!
The one thing that does annoy me though is the way that the press slate the bloke for what i've just mentioned + all of the surgery etc etc. and NOW they absolutely love him and say what a fantastic guy he was?
