Memorial Tournament

I feel a bit of sympathy for Tiger, knowing that every meltdown he has on the course will be analysed and obsessed over by pundits and punters the world over. Can't be easy to put that out of your mind when you're playing badly. Hard enough in the monthly medal when you know your pals will see the gory details of any disastrous round.

Can't see him retiring any time soon, though. Surely he won't want to go out like this when he must feel he can still get his game back?

Totally agree with you.
Imagine playing under so much pressure.

I've not seen any of his rounds this week, but saw Wayne Riley talking about him and said the first round especially was a miracle score considering where he was hitting the ball off the tee.

It's ridiculous that a handicap golfer (ie. me) thinks he knows what's right for the best player of his generation by a mile, but surely he needs to find a 'go-to' shot off the tee and stop trying to hit the ball into next week.

I have said this for years about Woods. He can hit the ball far enough to compete so has no need to hit wild lashes every time. Take more club and swing smoothly. Thinking back to Hoylake where he plotted his way round the course and only hit his driver once in 72 holes, that was a masterclass.

He was shown on the range on one of his comebacks stroking the ball with the driver, everything tight, smooth tempo and swing.
Next day on the course he's swinging so much faster, looser, poor tempo and consequently spraying it.
He has to accept that he's not the player he was, that everyone else has moved on and he has to start using his head more.

I'm starting to fear for Tiger a bit..
He just seems to get worse every time he plays, not better or even standing still.
Worst case, if he doesn't pick up any OWGR points this year, and on this form its hard to bet against it, he's going to be lucky to be in the top 500 come January.

There just doesn't seem to be the ability to step up a gear when he needs to.
The slippery slope continues..

how he can expect to change his swing and compete playing as rarely as he does is beyond me? I thought it was quite encouraging at the Masters and then he does nothing for the best part of 2 months. No-one can expect to compete on that basis. I've just got back from holiday so not seen him hit a shot this week but 85 tells me all I need to know.

The sky sports roundup of his round was shocking. Thins, duffs, fats, wild off the tee, missing greens by miles with short irons; it was painful viewing.

His first nine was very poor, but his back-nine was excellent. Once the putter got hot he was superb, took just 11 putts on the back nine on Thursday.

Shame for Tiger. Desperately needs to get his driving back. When he found the fairway on Thursday he was getting into good positions. It'll come, but he needs to realise that he's not going to get his game back playing every 5 weeks, he needs to be playing every week on tour. If he did that, there'd be less attention every time he plays, as the media would get used to seeing him again, and he'd be able to drill some rhythm. Just not going to happen if he maintains his current schedule. Chambers Bay could get ugly for Tiger!

I agree - Tiger needs to forget the once every 5 week schedule. And play say 4 out of 5 weeks, every time. He'd get a lot more consistent doing this. I do really hope to see Tiger up there, back at his best, challenging Rory. Also - I would like to see Tiger doing well because I'm wasn't old enough, (to be able to follow pro golf) when he was at his best.
