Mediums etc.

Derek Acorah passed away this morning.

I have never ever believed in mediums or the like. In my opinion they’re all a bunch of confidence fraudsters who take advantage of folk who miss their loved ones.

Anyone on here been to one of these things and been convinced?

I agree, though some almost certainly suffer from delusions and think they are actually speaking to the dead (when subconsciously they’re just reading the person and or making extremely general observations you could apply to almost anyone). Those are the most dangerous ones. High functioning delusional people can justify any action as “doing the right thing”, when in fact they are just satisfying their own desires.

The others are out and out con men, preying on the lonely. They might say they’re doing someone good by giving them solace, but to them you’d have to ask if such a vocation was about charity why are you charging people through the nose for it?

Yeah well, ask some old pirate where he buried his treasure so. There are channels on TV you can text into and get a reading. Can scarcely believe it’s even a thing.

As getting it right 10% makes them well below the average, they are above average at fooling the public.
Ghosts do exist. They are a trick of the light, you know that substance that makes up nearly 100% of the universe. You would expect to see a ghost sometime in your life. But light needs to bounce off something hard. So it's not actually a ghost.
Premonitions do happen. You would expect one sooner or later to come true.
Play the averages, just like golf and you improve the chances.

Had an ex girlfriend many years ago that at hugely believed in these charlatans and that they could actually speak to the dead. She used to waste money going to see them 1-2-1 and to the live stage shows. I think it's absolute tripe and all they do is find a way to get into the heads of the vulnerable and exploit them.

I’m guessing Science is not your strong suit!?

Anyway...mediums, psychics, clairvoyants etc ALL shysters and charlatans. They prey on vulnerable people who are looking for proof that there is Life after death, normally after the loss of a loved one.
My mum went to one about 40 years ago after her mum died. The mediums opening line was something like “I can see you had a warm and loving childhood”..... Mum got up and walked out!?

I just think of Whoopie Goldberg in Ghost when she starts to talking to the Hispanic woman with Patrick Swayze listening in. Just priceless.
Totally agree it is a load of cobblers and they prey on the stupid. Then again, more fool them for giving away their money.

If it brings someone comfort or peace of mind or helps them cope, then good luck to them.

Totally agree the fraudsters should be dealt with, but I don’t really agree with telling someone they are wrong or naive if it helps them.

Many people will dismiss mediums whilst believing in God.

Never been to one myself, but have experienced a couple of situations/incidents I’ve been unable to explain, so sort of on the fence whether there is such a thing as ghosts or the afterlife etc.
