I know from reading posts on here that a lot of you play winter comps that are eligible for handicap reductions and are 'proper competitions'. All we have at my course is the winter league which does not qualify for handicaps.

Are your comps played on winter greens? Is there anything that would stop comps being played on winter greens?

My question is because our first medal of the season is on Saturday and because of some form of infection on 2 of our greens we will be playing the first and 6th holes on winter greens. Personally I don't like this for a number of reasons, most notably that the first one is on the side of a hill and pretty much guarantees that bogey is the best score you can get (I played a putt to 1 foot last week and in the end it finished about 15 foot away!).

Is it permitted to play medals on winter greens? If so why couldn't we play for handicap during the winter?

Any thoughts?

Your winter greens? Are they normal holes on them or the winter buckets with a flag in them?

I think there can be a maximum of two winter/temporary greens for it to be a qualifier, as long as they on't reduce the measured length of the course by more than 100 yards

Medals are 'Club internal', so there are no restrictions/specifications as to what can be done.

However, in order to be a Qualifying Competition (for Congu Handicap), certain conditions must apply. Must be 'Rules of Golf' - so bucket holes on temps are not allowed, and, as Hawkeye posted, no more than 2 of them. Length must be within 100yds of a Measured Course. Course must be essentially as per when SSS measurement was done - so only a few (6?) bunkers can be deemed GUR, and only actually by specifying which ones.

And surely it's more a temporary green a opposed to literally "winter" and it's clear to see why they would be using one or two if they have green issues in regards a disease
