Medal or Social - what's the difference.

I'm with Imurg on this - i don't understand where the pressure issue comes from?

I was under pressure to find a job after getting made redundant but never on the first tee just because I have a card & pencil in my hand. Me shooting 70 or 90 isn't going to change the world ;)

I think that it is always in the back of my mind that a really bad shot or hole could wreck my card and so I am never really relaxed in a medal round. I also cannot help keeping score in my head so that keeps the pressure on as well. Basically I do not help myself when it comes to competitive rounds.

Strangely though, change it to matchplay and my competitive side kicks in and I play some of my best golf (also a bad hole does not kill the round).

Makes no difference to me. I go out with the intention of beating my PB every time I play and as such play with the same intensity every time. I think that comes from the days when I started golf and I knew nothing of handicaps or stableford points, it was just about taking as few shots as possible. It's still the same now.
