Matchplay against women!

What a poor post just full of bitterness and sourness

You lost on the last - so by that account he HC allowance has worked out pretty well and you had a close match.

Right now you are just coming across as a bitter loser. And it's not the first time

As you appear to not to be able to handle losing to people with a Higher HC than you I would suggest you stop playing HC matchplay and play Scratch - that way you can't cry and whinge about the HC allowance

The ladies quite clearly played better relative to their ability than you and your partner did

That is a pretty poor reply.......where is the bitterness/sourness in that post [only in your head it seems].

We played in our Gents v Ladies the other week. Four teams of four ball better balls. My playing partner and I were off 11, the ladies off 30 & 33. After 5 holes we were 3 down, managed to level it by 9 and then it was tight for the back 9. After 16 we were 1 Up and the ladies tee on the 17th is 150 yards shorter and on the last, all the ladies get an extra shot irrespective of handicap so a tough two closing holes for the gents. In the end we managed to win the 17th to win 2&1, the next two games were tied and the last hole the Ladies won 2 Up so the event was tied but the Ladies retained the trophy as the holders.
It was a tough but very enjoyable game and the closeness of the scores indicated that the handicap system pretty much got it right.

But why the 'adjustment' shots? 90% handicap allowance in 4BBB matches seems to work pretty well without them!

What part of his description of the match above didn't work well?

the only bit I can see that you could have a problem with is that the women won...

I should add that my record in Senior's matches, where I am usually the lowest handicapper, is pretty 50:50. Would us men get 2 adjustment shots if we played off the Ladies stroke indexes?

Your handicap is based on your sss, women's handicaps are based on their sss.

To play to handicap your have to score 12 over your sss.
To play to handicap, the woman has to score 30 over her sss.

If the women's sss is 2 shots more than the men's sss, then without the adjustment you win by 2.

It isn't difficult.

So women play a shorter course with a higher SSS then? I thought there were plans afoot to just have one SSS for each tee.

I remember playing against a lady county player a few years back and giving her an extra two shots.

Great game and also good fun. Managed to win but would not have been bothered in the slightest if I had lost.

If you are not happy with the handicap system then just play scratch events then its the same for everyone.

To part 1, yes. (Not always, but in your case, and mine it's true).

Part 2, no. There are plans afaik to have all tees rated for SSS for both men and women.

You couldn't have one SSS for each tee and expect men and women to play off it. It will be different depending on the case, but I'd hazard a guess that from our red tees the scratch for men would be around 68 (73 for women) and the white tees for women would be around 78 (72 for men).

Other than for historical reasons, I don't really see why women have to have a separate handicapping system. Can't they just be regarded as golfers who on average don't hit the ball as far as elite men? The same applies to many senior male golfers, who don't have a separate system.

Because they are playing a different golf course, which happens to be harder than your so hard as nails white tees with the obvious lesser distance the ladies hit the ball.

I know several lady golfers who can hit the ball further than I can, as a 70 year old Senior male golfer. The 19 handicap lady I played against yesterday hit the ball almost as far as me, and I should add that I am far from being the shortest hitting Senior male in our club. 😀

Well, come to Germany. Here the 3/4 rule still stands. But then again, our handicaps go up to 54, for both men and women. Plus slope index might grant them shots on top of that. Have fun playing with someone who might have three shots on you on a hole!:ears:

I know you know this but handicaps aren't based on how far you can hit the ball
