Matchplay against women!

Well, come to Germany. Here the 3/4 rule still stands. But then again, our handicaps go up to 54, for both men and women. Plus slope index might grant them shots on top of that. Have fun playing with someone who might have three shots on you on a hole!:ears:

Dietmar Delc. That has a certain ring to it. I think if I had to give three shots to someone on a hole. I would see how there drive went. If it's oob I would play the hole. If it's down the middle I would concede and walk to the next hole 😁

Well, if someone has a handicap of 54, tehre's a reason for it. I assure you, even if he or she hit the middle of the fairway with their drive, they will find plenty ways to mess it up later. (So can I, to be honest. I can even be close to the green with my second and then chip chip putt putt putt my way to the hole, but if you want to grant me the hole after the drive, sure, I'd take it ... speeds up the round)

I normally play better under pressure! 90% handicap allowance is probably OK, but not 'adjustment' shots as well!

Thank you to delc for using the correct term "adjustment"
Any bloke who refers to "courtesy" shots gets short shrift from me!

I lost to a lady a few years back at an away course in a Titleist Matchplay comp, the difference between the whites and her reds was just under 1300 yards 😳

She was very steady off the tee at around 180 yards and didn't have to be long, and as we all know, you don't see the ladies get into that much trouble or see them chipping out of trees.

But I had to drive my Sunday best on every tee just to get anywhere near to her giving away sometimes 80 yards before either of us hit a ball.

I was very gracious in my defeat but I was on a hiding to nothing before I started.

No shots on some holes but even when she did, she'd still be 30 yards plus in front of me with a more comfortable shot and club choice into the green.

Tough gig

It was all said tongue firmly in cheek 😁

we had a Male Vs Female match in our society today... The male handicap 18 had to give the Lady handicap 23 a total of 3 shots as we play off 3/4 handicaps still

anyways I have no idea how the heck they worked it out

one hole was a stroke index 3 for the males but a stroke index 10 for the ladies.. (the male tees you had to drive over a lake that was 170 yards to carry, where as the ladies tee was on the right side of the lake making it almost impossible to go in) anyways how do you give shots on that hole? does the lady get a shot there as its stroke index 3 or is it for the ladies stroke index 3?

Why only 3???????

5 × 0.75 = 3.75. She should have had 4 shots....

thats not the formula we use

we use 3/4 of handicaps and play off them

so he was playing off 13.5 (playing 14) she was playing off 17.25 (17) so only 3 shots

That's just idiotic.
But even by that lunacy, the difference was 3.75, which is 4.

Yes, I understand.
But it's just an arbitrary, made-up way with no reason or logic.
Why do people insist on trying to re-invent the wheel?

As for the strokes allocation, just do whatever, it's pointless trying to give advice.

Maybe the organiser has done this wrong.. (the lady involved in the match) so after all these years of running her society (15) no1 has pointed out to her that it is the handicap difference then 3/4 of that and not the why I was saying

I actually am happy to be wrong because I can't wait to rub it in next event

Mate, I was using 3/4 handicap allowance for matchplay well over 30 years ago as a kid, I can tell you 3/4 of everything without looking at a chart.

What is wrong is the way you take 3/4 of each handicap, then round it up or down, then allocate the difference. That is just plain wrong.

you cant tell some people .

TO PAULJAMES.......
you are reading the card WRONG mate.
