Masters tradition.

I love all the Masters traditions. Handing over the green jacket, boiler suits, honorary starters, par 3 competition, 10 shot cut rule etc.

There are lots of people that don't believe the Masters should be a major and I think all these traditions help to protect it's status. Take all them away and it becomes a weak field playing the same beautiful course year after year.

Ditto. Another day, another thread questioning something about the Masters.

Absolute classic Delc. I've roared with laughter reading this.

We go a 55" 4k TV earlier this year. You can even tell if the player has wet or dry shaved from 400yds...

Get a bigger telly!!

It was intended to be a serious point. I do actually go and spectate at a few golf tournaments a year, as opposed to watching on TV, and it can often be difficult to tell who is who!

Many golfers don't seem to shave during a tournament, or even at all (e.g. Shane Lowry). They often look more scruffy than their caddies as a result!

Surely it's not a bad thing to questions stuff ? Should we just accept things ?

Why not?

Certainly the members of Augusta National are not going to be influenced by anything that any of us say on this forum.

As I have said before it is largely down to the players to determine if an event is a Major and each of the four have their own characteristics and idiosyncrasies that make them special.

Traditional behaviour reflecting the event's home in the South of USA is just one of those characteristics in the case of The Masters.

In this instance I think we should just accept things. The game is changing gradually over time and alot of the traditions and rules are adapting to fit the times e.g. wearing shorts will happen soon (correct in my book). Progression is great and the right course of action however having the tradition in this one tournament with all the quirks and rules that go with it is a positive as it reminds us, yo a degree of where we came from.

The green jacket, the locker in the changing room, the welcoming of a new member to an elite club, the crows nest for amateurs, the boiler suits, the patrons, no running, no phones. All of this makes this tournament that little bit more special. Is it necessary, no. Is it nice, hell yeah.

Which events do you watch where they don't have a placard with the score showing the players in the group ? Every challenge and ET event has one as does the LET

Every time I question anything about golf, I get people like you coming down on me like a ton of bricks!

Because you have a small list on repeat over the month - you ask nothing new and it's always something been asked previously

As we're on the subject of questioning things, should the Open always be played on a links course?

IT should be on the best courses in the country

So maybe it should pop to Sunningdale

Actually the LET event at the Buckinghamshire generally doesn't, except for the leading groups on the final day! Probably not enough volunteers to go round.

Interesting because the one I watched there on the Saturday did have placards with the them

So are you really serious that you want them to wear names on the back or only be allowed one colour ?

If they are that far away when they are playing a shot, wait until they walk past you....
If you are behind them that won't work of course.

You certainly don't see any on the first 2 days, and not all the groups have them at weekends.

Ok - and the next point ?

In fact with your extensive knowledge of the ladies game you would be able to recognise all - even their tattoos

YES!

NO!

The Open being played on a links course is it's USP and that should never change. It is a different challenge and requires different skills to other tournaments and tests the players in a different way. Moving it to an inland course would reduce it to just another tournament.

Probably a different and likely huge thread but in my eyes no. They always look so grim. I get that we need to be different to US style courses but surely we can do better than another links course year after year.

Back to Delcs point. Test match cricket manages without names and they are all in white. Players have styles that mark them out, sponsors branding pins them down a little further. No harm in your point but I don't see it as necessary.
