Hi all

managed to get to the range yesterday to try the my new MacGregor MT PROs which I was wittering about the other day

given that I felt I was swinging it quite badly - NB also trying and supervise both my 3yr old daughter and Mrs H so concentration not 100% - I was pretty pleased with how they went

my current set is TaylorMade RAC TP forged with the Nippon NS Pro 850s in, so Nippon's in the MacGregors are 1150s so heavier which I did notice in terms of weight but didn't seem to alter flight much

4,5,6 in the shallow cavity very easy to hit - possibly should have got the 7 iron in that set up rather than the blades as well but will need to play a few proper rounds before making that call

7, 8, 9 and PW in the blades gave masses of feedback and when I got it out of the middle flew very well.

Like the soft feel of the DD2 grips (normally have multi compounds) but not sure how well they'd perform in the wet

as ever so hard to really judge with range balls and it was very windy. Weather permitting will play Monday and Tuesday so hopefully get some more tangible feedback then

play well (and wrap up warm!) if you're teeing it up today

I looked at them yesterday, look nice.

I have just gone to Ping S59 irons.

I have always been a MacGregor fan since my first set of proper irons back in late 80's were a set of Mac MCX's.
Glad to see them back in the big time after a few years in the wilderness.
I have today acquired a set of Mac 685'S with rifle 5.5's and new decade grips. Can't get out for snow alas but keen to get out with them as soon as. Callaways x-18 PS are up for sale.

MacGregor have an interesting history - always used to be a tour brand then went very mass market/cheap in the 90s but back to being a premium brand again in the last 5 years.

think I'm right in saying their irons have won more Majors than any other brand

Don't matter what they look like as long as they do the job. I would use a DM boot lashed to a scaffold pole if it helped my game.

Hope you get on well with them Mike, look forward to seeing them in action someday.

to an extent that.s true, but it certainly helps to look down at something resembling a golf club. I find it's most important with the short game. I simply cannot chip with an ugly bucket of a thing.

Good choice ! - I swapped my MP60's for M685's and am so glad I did (same rifle 5.5 shaft) . Give them a couple of rounds and i'm sure you will be happy.

They don't look as good as the MP60's but they are more forgiving and the ball flight is powerful. I hit them a little high, but thats probably my swing, not the clubs.

Good luck

Mike have you had a set of titleist AP2's through the doors of GM Palace yet?
Ive got my hands on a set from titleist (our pro was invited for a fitting, only change was 2 deg flat though they are factory 2deg upright anyway) He is sticking with his own irons. All I can say after todays escapades is wow!
S300 shafts with heads that just ooze quality, they have slightly smaller than standard heads but certainly dont feel any harder to hit and the fit and finish of the club for a forged item is excellent.
Hitting long irons is something I was starting to doubt myself over, after one round the confidence is back as is my distance, all I can say is get a set and give them a go for the sake of your game!
