I'm sorry but this is ridiculous. The man has just created golfing history, is a tremendous ambassador for the sport, has had an emotionally draining year and has been left off the honours list. Scandalous. Just goes to show how ridiculous it is placing so much emphasis on the chuffing Majors. I'm appalled. No discredit to Rory or Darren but if they are recognised so should Luke Donald. It's not like he's a flash in the pan either, been grinding away around the top ten for years.

Never been a big fan of the 'cash for honour's'* list but this takes the biscuit. #unimpressed

*NB this is in reference to the Labour scandal and my perception that such activity is much more widespread

Not necessarily an excuse but the honours list is is drawn up and recipients are informed months before the announcement is made. As lukes historic achievement is fairly recent, recognition in the next list is more likely.

What you mean when he was World number one and way ahead of everyone on both money lists and finishing in the top ten for fun each and every week? I hope you are right and he does get recognised in June but I still think the whole process is an archaic mess.

Yeah not on really, surely it was more of an accomplishment to top the table on both sides of the water over the season and be world number 1 than play well for 4 days on the trot. Do discredit to both Darren and Rory winning a major is huge but topping both tours hasn't been done in donkeys!!

I can understand him being missed even though he's no1 and topped both money lists which I understood has never been done before evesdad therefore history, as outside the world of golf it's just a simple fact that he's made more money in the season- every other professional sport has the same outcome remember-

However, the fact Clarke and Mcilroy ARE honoured for winning a major each beggars the question why not Luke? Who knows, and who knows how they choose the honours list.

I would hope that the only reason for Luke's omission is that his achievement was finalised too late in the day for inclusion this time around.

How has Clarke managed to be honored! It's a bit of a joke! How he was on spoty is beyond me also.

Not sure if you've heard he won the British open & set up a charity The Darren Clarke Foundation which raises thousands of pounds every year.

Doesn't exactly make him a sports personality of the year though does it. The open this year was like a marathon runner winning a race in the ran which was well behind the track record. It was a win, but was not the greatest win, the weather leveled the playing field but it doesn't mean the best golfer won. The luckiest golfer won.

As for his charity work, great stuff, but that doesn't mean he should be sports personality of the year, especially as no women where included in the list. He should have been sacrificed for at least one female!

I agree that it a crime to not include Luke, but wonder if the fact that he's not a UK resident might go against him when awards like these are being dished out.

Nevermind, I'm sure that he'll get due recognition after being the standout player in the winning 2012 Ryder Cup team. :whoo:

I can't believe he hasn't been recognised - was very disappointed to see him missing from the honours list, but let's hope it's down to timing and nothing else. His consistency this year has been nothing short of phenomenal and deserves some serious recognition.

I agree with you Tiger,however im sure its down to timing.
Having got to no1 in the world should have got him an award,a fantastic
achievement that doesnt just happen overnight.
A major is four days of golf,getting to no1 can take years.

Personally I think honouring sportsmen / women while they are still playing is a bit of a joke anyway. All McIlroy has done is won a golf competition which at the end of the day is his job. He's a supremely talented individual yes but worthy of an honour? Really? What if he never wins another one?

Nothing against Rory or any of the others but honours should be handed out at the end of careers when we can see if they have truely achieved anything

Luke is a great golfer and I am sure he will be honoured at some point. I agree with Hawkeye, I dont see why sportspeople should get honours just for being talented. They earn eye-watering amounts of money for what they do, I also question the amounts as an unreasonable in proportion to other hard working people, but I guess thats another whole can of worms.

I think people should recieve honours for what they have put back into society and that needs to be more than playing a game well.
