Losing weight/fitness thread

I've moved my runs around a bit this week so this evening an easy 6 miles.

Heart rate mainly below 150 again which is very pleasing. Rounded it up too 10k as it just seemed like the thing to do :P

57:43 average pace of 9:18 minute miles. If I can get some more weight off, I think my target of sub 4 hours for London is going to be achievable :D

Double session today.. 5am this morning was upper body a really good mix of strength and plyometrics, even got some good Overhead press numbers out today despite having to listen to Westlife belting out of the speakers! That irritated me more than the shoulder which is holding up with this new training style and daily mobility..

11am was meant to be our group Phys session but I’m excused due to my “injury” thought I’d go for a run but the heavens opened. No drama I’ll run on the treadmill, go to the gym and the power supply along the wall where the treadmills are had blown! Ended up doing my run on the skill mill curved runner as it doesn’t need power, I literally cannot maintain a constant or consistent speed on those bloody things. Ended up stepping off at 34:37 having done 7km which isn’t that fast but my god it felt like Fartlek running the whole time with the horrendous hard work of trying not to sprint or fall off the back when running slower 😂

We use these on our Hyrox classes, it's mainly about trusting yourself to lean into it. Like you I struggle on these alot.

Magic Mile session today, bit slower than I’d of liked, but it was very windy down the seafront, an excuse, but I’m having it.😂

Fastest part of the day was after the session finished snd I helped a bloke catch his dog that had got loose and was running in the main road! Proper sprint session😂😂 Thankfully the cars slowed down/stopped and we caught her.👏👏

So I needed to fit in my long run early this week as have a Half Marathon in 'The Hague' at the weekend.
It was a good and bad run, took a turning too early, so had to change my route. Then after doing the reverse of a different section turned off too early again :P

Not an issue would just mean looping around the lake for more then planned. Got to 15.5 miles and thought 1.5 miles back to work that's my 19 miles done 🙈
Realised at 16 miles still had 3 miles to go. Before this felt pretty strong then after realising I'd messed up head and body decided that was it.

So ended up with 17 miles at an average of 9:21 minute miles. Happy enough, but need to find a way to take some fluids with me as after I've finished pretty dehydrated and calf's tighten right up.

A running vest or hydration vest would be your best option mate, keeps your hands and midrif clear.👍🏻

Nice early gym this morning, Shoulders and arms which always feels nice to do pain free for me. Lighter weights but more reps so still getting the volume in. Finished up doing 40 mins of 400m repeat intervals on the treadmill at max pace with 2 mins rest in-between as there was no way I was going out in that weather we had early this morning.

I just hate running with these and difficult to find one that fits me properly. But may have to bit the bullet as they say.
Try the different types, you might find carrying the water on your back (bladder type) less annoying.

The ones with the bottle holders on the front can be distracting.

Plus you’ll only be wearing it for specific runs.

Don’t, I need a run today and it is blowing an absolute hoolie in the Highlands and the rain is horizontal because of the wind.
Already soaked walking the dog 🙈

Been getting back into running in 2026, and have definitely started to get faster. Got the Lincoln 10K in a month.

Had my knee MRI done, and the specialist seemed to be fairly neutral about it with me when discussing the results. Telling me there were operative and non-operative treatments, and probably best to avoid operative for now. Heatlth insurance will cover 10 physio sessions for me. Anyway, I finally got the official MRI report yesterday. Most of it sounds like Latin, although a few things stood out as alarming. Terms such as "severe patello-femoral joint degenerative change", "tear involving the posterior horn of the medial meniscus" and "meniscal cyst". There seems to be a lot going on, which can explain why my legs stiffen up all the time, and I finish rounds of golf limping as if I'm 90 years old. I suspect my other knee is the same, butn only got my right knee looked at because it was especially painful when kicking a football.

Got my first physio session tomorrow. The physio is also an elite triathlete, and was the one who gave me my running program a few years back (helping me reduce my 5K times from 24+mins to just over 19 mins, and 10K from about 50 mins to just over 39 mins). So, I'll be very interested to know what he thinks about me running at the moment. I suspect he may ask me to cool it, and try and improve leg strength and flexibility
