Losing weight/fitness thread

1750 calories a day what did you put in as a target weight loss 😳

I’d be constantly starving and barely able to function on that amount šŸ˜‚ sounds like you need to make some smarter choices and you’ll be fine šŸ‘Œ

A takeaway isn’t going to hurt at all as long as you’re being consistent with everything else. it’s a bit like golf really consistency and repetition is boring but ultimately it brings results.
I put in to lose 1.5lbs a week I think. But I chose the lowest level of physical activity, as I sit behind a desk all day. Just make sure I go for a walk at lunch to get steps in. My current weight is around 13 stone 4, and I'd like to be closer to 12 stone than 13 really.

I will be playing golf and eating takeaways each week anyway, it just makes common sense to do the on the same day surely? šŸ˜„
Not really as your exercise doesn’t cancel out what’s been put in your mouth. It’s your overall weekly intake and activity that matters not what you do on one day! As I said earlier consistency is what makes the difference.šŸ˜‰

But as long as you get where you want to and you do it your way that’s all that matters.

Another gym session in the bag tonight, no specific routine, my plan this week is to just do a bit of everything to get the body moving again and then add some structure.

Kept the food clean again so still on the right path.
Well worth taking pictures then comparing them against your current week after week.
Made a big difference to me when you think you are getting nowhere fast.

I took a picture on Sunday, so I have the day 0 one šŸ˜‚.

I’ve also got the ones from 6 years ago last time I took the gym seriously for what turned out to be a short space of time (cut short by Covid). Managed to do 15kg in just over two months through nothing more than gym 4 days a week and eating clean 90% of the time.

Are you sure you burn 1000 calories playing Golf?

My last round carrying clubs, took 4hrs 11 minutes, covered 5.21 mile and Garmin said I burnt 675 Calories.šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

I'm pretty sure Garmin doesn't take into account that he could be carrying his bag (I'm hoping he did 🤣) which could add another 400 odd calories burned. My 9k walk the other day had me burning just over 600 calories, I always take these measurements with small pinch of salt though.

Propably the difference between the MFP App and the Garmin, Garmin, in theory, uses a few more metrics, but you don’t stipulate whether carrying or walking behind a trolley.šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Depends what your having, a whole large dominoes pizza is over 2000 calories. A chinese with Rice a main and say spring rolls will be well over 1200 calories. Making the exercise completely useless as such.

Took the Dog to the groomers this morning, roads were clear of ice, but pavements still white and icey in places.

So went to gym to do todays session, warm up etc with a 1 mile best effort, Garmin set at treadmill for workout, also logged start on treadmill, 300metre difference between Garmin saying I’d finished the mile and the treadmill, kept running until treadmill read 1600metres.

This afternoon the pavements are clear so looking forward to getting back outside.

Spent the rest of the day and in etween popping out batch cooking Soup, Chilli (with turkey mince) and pasta sauces for use over next few days and freezing for next week.

To add a datapoint, the Inbody body composition device produces a report that projects your calorie burn for various activities and according to it golf is at the bottom of efficiency(cal/min) 🄲 Behind walking and Yoga!

Squash/racketball are predictably at the top. Running, cycling and swimming are rated the same in the middle.

Sure, it’s just another approximation but at least it comes from a certified medical device.

Another really bad day here with snow and ice so a weights session was had, felt absolutely superb during it and even better afterwards, was procrastinating about even doing it as well, so just shows you, just get after it!!!
Really need to get a proper structure in place though, I’m just winging it with some sort of exercise each day.

Arms are a bit stiff after yesterday's swim, but nothing too bad, so we go again tomorrow.

Food intake still pretty good too. Ended up having a McDonalds last night but had a grilled wrap and the new surf and turf burger, approx 1000kcals but within the allowance I had left, so all good. Been back on it today and have steak with Jacket potato tonight - just need to remember to not use too much butter on my potato!

2 sessions today, Session 1: speed and power focusing on RDL and standard deadlifts as main lifts with some accessories work. Explosive movement Ball slams and 30ā€ box jumps, finished off with some rotational core work.

Session 2: this afternoon was running, all done indoors on the funky new treadmills, not a chance I was going out running in -24° and dodging ice šŸ˜‚. Started off with 4 x 400m repeats 90sec time limit for the distance with 1min rest. Then straight into a Fartlek run for 8km with varying speeds and inclines. Really enjoyed it apart from staring at a wall for the whole time!

Some of my best sessions have been the ones I didn’t fancy or wasn’t really looking forward to. Something about the gratification of getting it done regardless and know that it was worth it.

I really rate nutrition geeks for their supplements and the pricing is really good if you get the bundles.

I use their Magnesium Glycinate, B12, D3 & K2 as well as their Ashwagand for sleep. I definitely find as I’ve got older supplementing with Magnesium, B12 and Vit D has definitely aided recover, aches etc.

The Ashwaganda for me has been game changing especially with my disrupted work sleep schedules. Is a placebo effect ? Maybe but if I feel personally it’s helped it’s worth the money.
Been seeing a lot about Ashwaganda recently. My sleeps pretty rubbish too. Might try these. Saw them on a promotion stand in Aldi at the weekend.

Aim this year is to loss the weight gained recently and reduce my blood pressure. Still hampered bya shoulder/bicep issue and back is still annoying but going to really make an effort to get back on track.
