Losing weight/fitness thread

100% it will work by doing extra on your weaker side, I try and do extra on my left side for shoulder presses as it gives up well before my right.
Try doing Bulgarian Split Squats and doing extra on your weaker side, if your consistent, you should get them close enough to being symmetrical.

It’s not just the leg, I’m referencing more to the upper muscle groups, shoulders, lats, pecs etc etc. due to favouring the right leg for so long I’ve favoured the complete right muscle group.

Just thinking out loud that it may be worth implement the seperate routine to the upper and core body using more cable based / free weights so the right simply cannot carry the left.

Re Bulgarian split squats, the knee isn’t ready for that and pops / crunches and wobbles like a female dog in season when pushed.

Never quite made my target before we came away on holiday but I'm determined not to undo all the hard work. Will be going for a run tomorrow morning. Scoped a few routes out.

Gym this afternoon, but had nothing to give, toiling badly on 1500 calories a day, think I'm going to up it slightly this week to get more Energy.

Out at half 3 this morning and got 5 miles in, in 45 mins.
4 miles yesterday as well.
Will be a push to get out the rest of the week because of the Open 😂 😂 😂

I just weighed myself and I'm 12 stone 13 and 3/4. I did it - got under 13 stone when I was over 14 at Christmas. Still no idea what I've done that's made the difference - I think it's a number of small things I guess. No alcohol at all (while I had two pints on one occasion and that was all). Smaller portions. No crisps anymore. Mostly sugar-free drinks. But I've done less exercise than ever, it's really just golf and general walking now. I still eat cookies and biscuits like it's going out of fashion but that doesn't seem to be holding me back. I don't know what the magic formula is but I'll try and keep going in the same vein I guess. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Such a massive difference in genetics isn't there? 700+ miles for me this year and I lost over a stone, haven't managed to run to due to the heat on holiday and I've put around 7lb back on.

I am actually tempted to do the Parkrun this Saturday. Would be the first one I've done since 2022. Would be interesting to see if my time is a lot worse. I used to average between 26-29 minutes. I probably won't bother though.

3 runs and 3 gym sessions the last 6 days, away on holiday tomorrow though so will expect a few lbs on.
Down to 12.4 now and 20% body fat, will need extreme discipline to see a six pack in future, don’t think I’m ready for that quite yet 😂😂

Been following the thread just not commenting daily, seems everyone is still cracking on so fair play all 👍

I’m still in and things are progressing well more so with the strength in the left leg that’s shot and general all round strength, I lost weight the wrong way a few years back so it was never about the overall weight as a target, it was more about building muscle mass as the weight loss should come.

However something has come to light which I confused on. I broke my left knee bad in 98 and destroyed the acl in 2000 and as such have favoured my right side for everything for 20+ years. When joining the gym in October my left thigh was the same size as both calf’s and 4inch smaller in diameter than my right (favoured) leg so this was always a main focus, but it’s come to light that general muscle strength and density on the entire left side is less and this has been confirmed by the chiropractor especially in the the lower back, shoulders and chest.

Long term I could just power through trying consciously trying to use more effort on that side however I’m wondering if anyone as trained isolated on one side? Even maybe an additional set single sided in each session?

I’m currently doing all seated press’s leg extensions, seated leg curls, split squats and weighted hips thrusts independently which is stopping the right leg working harder or carrying the left which is proving to work, weight pushed has over doubled in 6 months with reps also increased so I’m thinking if it worked on the legs……

Interested to hear any pros or cons from anyone who has tried similar.
It will depend how extreme the imbalance is, but generally the approach is to set the weight to that which is approriate for the weakest side, and then train the weakest side first. If you don't make all your reps, then you also do less on the right side. Eventually you should get to the point where the weaker side can do what the stronger side does now, and then you can start growing the stronger side too.

If you really must you can do what works now on the stronger side to help maintain it, but don't increase it until the weaker side catches up, otherwise you'll never get rid of the imbalance.

The other thing is to be very conscious of being balanced in your general life activities, so you don't continually favour the strong side. We all have slight biases in our posture and movement, so the goal isn't perfection, but just making it less extreme.

Most expensive 7 miler I've ever had this morning. She asked me to pick up a special sourdough loaf from a bakery in the village, too many pastries and cake for me to decide so £26 later I was out the shop.

Next door was a fruit and veg shop who had dragon fruit and daughter hasn't stopped banging on about them since she had it on holiday, 2 for a fiver. Off I went loaded up like a donkey.

Back after my holiday and I’ve definitely put on a few pounds, I ate well but drank far too much, cocktails and wine were plentiful 🙈
Managed the gym 6 out of 8 days, just weights.
Had my first run yesterday in 17 days, 6.2miles in 58 mins, felt every step 🤣🤣
On Monday, I managed 100 pull ups in 30 mins, so definitely feeling stronger 😁

Back from holiday this morning and feel like a whale!! Had a brilliant time so will just have to work harder to try shift the drink and food. Did a fair bit of walking but the food was too delicious and the drink - soft fizzy drinks which I don't drink at all plus the booze was flowing.

Great day in the gym today. Became the oldest guy at work to join the 1000lb club whereby you get 1 x Bench Press, 1 x Deadlift and 1 x Squat to hit the number. No practice lifts no 2nd chances just a quick stretch and body weight warm up then straight into the lifts.

Just waiting on my T-Shirt so I can be one of those guys wandering around wearing it 😂

Been offered a place at Hyrox Birmingham, just trying to put the figures together, but looks like a no go with the cost 😞
Dare I ask how much it is?

It's the flights and hotel, nearly £500 return for the flights alone, probably looking at £1000 minimum when everything is factored in, hard to justify.
