Losing weight/fitness thread

Well after going off grid since originally posting, other than a two week break over Christmas (new year in Rome and flu), we’ve been at it since last week of October pretty strictly.

Mrs socks us down almost two stone, her goal was more about weight loss so she’s chuffed.

Mine is was weight loss and muscle build so the progression is slightly different. I’m 5k down but the amount of weight I’m now lifting, the extension in reps and sets is greatly increased and my shot leg is almost 4 times stronger so it’s all going good. We’ve got these new fandango scales that show the bad stuff in all reducing (bmi etc) and good stuff is increasing (muscle mass etc)

Going to stick at the current schedule for march and April with a bit my cardio and that should be another 5kg off. At the moment I’d say it’s 85-90% weights which is why there’s no massive loss.

May is the final month before holiday so the month will change to 50% cardio / 50% weights to hit the timber as hard as poss.

This journey is great!

I think it’s pretty good other than needing to hit more protein, it cold definitely be lower in carbs but that’s counter productive to my end goal.

I’ve dropped cereal bars & protein bars from the snacks, these are generally replaced with hummus on non gym days and a couple of boiled eggs on gym days. Breakfast is pretty much Greek yoghurt and high protein granola most days other than weekends where the misses does a high protein breaky (under 500 cals) including spinach and poached eggs. We generally have a long training session Saturday mornings around 10 so I swap breakfast and lunch around. She’s decided to go all gousto to help with portioning and all meals seem to be 500-600cals but higher in protein so it’s all going well.

No coffee now after 6pm, need to definitely look at water intake.

Weigh in today

112.7kg (started 126 on boxing day)

New low as 2 weeks ago was 112.9 (minor blip last week up to 114)

Been a feel good week. Swimming with kids Monday (more up and down stairs for the slide with the twins) but my sister came and couldn't get over how "slim I look" (slim compared)

Even had a couple of naughty meals out (IE McDonald's and KFC on days out with kids for cheap meals around what we are doing, can't beat £25 to feed 6 of us for lunch today for example)

Their off out with nanny and grandad tomorrow as my parents feel guilty they haven't seen them so off for some golf exercise lol 🤣

Got My yearly review with the nurse next week about my physical health because of my medication and I can proudly walk in and say I'm down in weight from last year , be interested to see my blood work as normally my cholesterol and blood sugars are so low it's amazing but interested to see if losing weight changes that to increase them a bit

First full CrossFit class this morning. Really impressed and really enjoyed it. Early days but I really think it can compliment the exercise I currently already do - which is predominantly cardio (cycling).

Main focus was deadlifts, power cleans and push jerks. Well coached and lots of technique work.

Weights tonight.

Leg Press - 3 Sets
Leg Extension - 4 Sets
Hamstring Extension - 4 Sets
Calf Raises - 4 Sets
Hip Adduction - 2 Sets
Hip Abduction - 2 Sets

Safe to say my legs are finished 😂😂

Struggled to get motivated tonight in the gym but still managed 25 minutes walking/jogging and a dumbbell session of 3 sets each of bench press, incline bench press, seated arnold press and incline hammer press. Did it and so glad I did.

Skipping a weekly weigh-in this week, just too fatigued to exercise this morning & going out for diner tonight anyway
Should just be a one week blip/pause

CrossFit today and pull ups (rings for me), dumbbell press and double unders (skipping). Never for a minute thought I'd get a double under but got about 10. Last few were single, double, single rather than one big double and stop!!!

The whip marks from the skipping rope though...forearms look terrible and can't put my wedding ring on as the knuckle is black and swollen (that may have been the rings - not sure). Badges of honour to add to the huge bruise on my shin where I bashed it getting a weight plate off the bar yesterday!

6 miles in 55mins last night, 9.09mins per mile.

One of my hardest runs to date, legs felt heavy from the start and just never shook it off.
Think I went too heavy on legs at the gym on Thursday night and it had a detrimental effect.
Just delighted to get something done in the end.

Rest day today, then gym on Monday/Tuesday.
Travel home from work on Wednesday and take it from there.

My knee still isn’t great, I’ve got a feeling that’s my season over and done with 🤦🏻
It’s right at the front just below my patella, really painful and hard to walk without a limp most of the time.
God job I hate jogging 🤣

Sounds daft, and fingers crossed nothing major ligament wise, do you have issue with hamstrings or Achilles? I used to get PFPS (runners knee - can’t remember the acronym) from footy. Mine was from not stretching out my hamstrings properly. A bit of rest then a proper stretching programme (and knee brace/wrap thing) sorted it out.

Not really, touch wood I've never had an achilles or bad hamstring injury but I am guilty of not stretching enough before a game. Reading up it could be just a strain on the tendon behind the patella, I've played a lot of football on hard surfaces recently which could be the cause of it, I also have a stupid tendency to jump down from the machines I work on which can't be doing my knees any good.
