Losing weight/fitness thread

Well I survived the great south run on Sunday. Wet and windy, didn't mind the wet so much as it kept me from overheating.
Managed the 10 miles in 1 hour 33 minutes, course was 0.2 of a mile long aswell 🤬

May try a easy 4 miler tonight but will see how I feel when I get home from work. May even have a week off running til Saturday.

I’ve somehow injured my elbows/forearm/hands (shooting pain) which is really impacting my training. Not sure if directly done via exercise or it’s something like carpel tunnel or a nerve issue. Annoying more than anything.

8.5 miles on Friday and 9 miles today, but today’s run came with a groin injury, felt it at mile 4 and tried to shake it / stretch it out but nothing, got an ice pack on it now, but hopefully nothing to bad, gutted as I was going for the half and absolutely flying ☹️🤬🤬

Sometimes it's best to stop too make sure you don't it worse. I've learnt the hard way

7.5 miles Wednesday with a friend, was just what I needed after a mentally tough day. A run and a chat where very much needed. Although My general cardio fitness is pretty awful. Will need to gradually build it up.

Saturday ParkRun with my friend again, 5k under 30 minutes is starting to feel comfortable again. Fingers crossed Achilles issue is gone now 🤞

7 miles before work this morning, bang on an hour. Making the most of the clock change and the kids being at mom and dad's.
Post recovery drink of choice today was Chocomel, absolutely sensational drink. Hidden at the back of the fridge so the kids don't see it.

Still can’t do any form of pressing exercise due to the tissue damage in the shoulder. So focusing on leg and explosive power, posterior chain and cardio. It’s bloody annoying as I love training shoulders but the leg power is definitely coming back nicely though I may end up walking like Bambi on ice tomorrow 🦌

So been a bit quiet, been slowing building up the mileage. Have signed up for Runna, have a plan for a 10K i've not entered but can probably get a place.

Today was an interval session, 2 x 0.5 miles, then 4 x 0.25 miles and 5 x 0.125 miles. Somehow managed to hit all the intervals which was a very pleasant surprise. As all intervals where for a 25 minute 5k pace

I've looked at that before but been hesitant, interested to see how you get on with it. Might give them a go and use it to train for the big one.

My wife uses Runna, she’s uses it more for accountability as she will find every excuse to not run but has been committed since using the app to keep her in shape for sports she plays. She swears by its easy to use and programming.

I'm OK for accountability, I've got the weekly weigh in that gets me out 5 times per week.
I've got no idea about interval training, zone 2 I've heard mentioned by running people on Instagram and I've no idea what it is. I literally just put the trainers on and go.

Your lucky then my wife’s terrible considering how sporty she is she will find any excuse not to train or run. It’s ironic considering her background and how good she is at physical activity’s. It’s actually really annoying how easy she finds things 🤣

Zone 2 : Easiest way to understand is it’s running at a conversational pace, so say we ran together it’s a comfortable fairly slow pace that we can hold a full conversation at. It’s actually quite dull and hard to do because you have to force yourself quite often to slow down! I hate it but I do it as there are a lot of benefits!

Thanks for that makes perfect sense, just slow down...unfortunately i could be walking and I still sound like a panting dog.

I struggle with Zone 2, as I'm almost always in zone 3 even on easy runs. I find it more difficult to run slower then it is too go faster.

I got Runna, as I work away from home, so I can do these sessions before or after work. I used to have a running coach who would plan my training for me. But he stopped training everyone except his Mom and Brother.

So working away I can't make any club runs at the moment, so having some planned in for me is great. Especially has I'd been putting this one off since Sunday, had good reasons for Monday and Tuesday.
