Good Friday Stableford comp today which is a qualifying comp. Managed to shoot a net 63 again (still one short of breaking 90) and came in with 43 points (currently top of the leaderboard but quite a few to come in still). By my calculations that is 7 under par and at least a cut of 2.8 off my current 27 handicap. Have been desperate for my first cut and it looks like it has come at last.

We had a Good Friday medal today. I won last weeks stableford and was leading by 3 shots when I left today. Its all about the money, not handicaps. Just got all my clubs re-gripped with the winnings.

"Its all about the money, not handicaps"

Thats strange, quite the opposite for me. Any money I win is purely a bonus on my real intentions , ie to get my HC down.

*shakes head*

If you win money, you're clearly playing well. Winning money and reducing your handicap come hand in hand. Don't get me wrong, I have targets for where i want my handicap to be, I just prefer the money.

Sits next to Chris shaking my head too :(

Looking like a Churchill convention now - another head shake. Its about getting cut every time. I don't mind finishing outside the top 3 if I've played under my handicap and got a cut even if its by the lowest amount possible.

"Managed to shoot a net 63 again"

Richard: Anyone that can manage to shoot a nett 63 again is not going to be very popular, and perhaps well over due for quite a HC reduction.

Enjoy it while you can, for one thing is for sure, .......when you get a lower H/C like 11 or something, 63's will be a thing you can only dream about, as you watch those 27 Handicappers take all the prizes........again.

Ooops. My bad again.

I can't see the point of getting cut without getting something for it, even if it's only a one liner in the local rag :o :D

But winning a couple of Top Flite XLs, well, now we're talking, sharpen that machete.

Some interesting posts here. I've played golf for over 35 years, I've always strived to get better and get the handicap down. Been as low as 8 (7.6) currently off 11 (11.2). At no time has my golf just revolved around either winning the competition or winning the sweep money. Yes I've had good results, I've won some good competitions and have my name on some of the good trophies in our cabinet. I've also had my share of the sweep money in the past. In my view its not what the game is about if all your looking for is pot hunting. My best season was one where I didn't win any single competition, I played good controlled golf all season an won our Aggregate Shield which took into account performance over a series of events and your total score against CSS. I ended the season -13 for my four best events.

Play well and you will get your reward in a lower handicap and a good feeling that you get after you have played well against the course.

If your a pot hunter then your missing the point of what club golf is all about I'm afraid!

I dont know where this came from? I know I didn't say it.

I'm not at all, I set this as my target in a competition - isn't that the aim of the game when entering a competition - you compete to win along with the other 90 or so entrants?

–noun
1. the act of competing; rivalry for supremacy, a prize, etc.

What's the point in entering a competition if you don't want to do well.
