Ah - there's your mistake :)

You have to be a little bit more specific than 'Western Isles' for Tiree - because for Tiree the average annual wind speed is over 17mph compared with the Shetland Islands at 14.7 knots - 16.9mph. In any case - both mighty windy and just great for links golf...

Just as another wee aside - at the right time of year Tiree is also the sunniest place in the UK (though I can report that at the moment it most definitely isn't sunny and it is most definitely windy).

Sorry don’t know how to post links but if you take the trouble to view weather extremes- Shetland you will see why Shetland is the windiest place in the UK👍

Yes, yes - I know, but if you know the Western Isles you'll know that they cover a very large area and very many islands from the far north to quite far south - as do and are the Shetland Isles - and some of the Western Isles are windier than others (they are all very windy places) and so across the Western Isles there will be an average - and indeed the stats show the Shetland Isles is on average windier than the average of the Western Isles. But of the Western Isles Tiree is generally accepted as being the windiest and above the average for the Western Isles as a whole, and that is what has been the generally held view for many years. In any case. It's always windy. Everywhere. Shetland and Western Isles.
