Located 1hr west of Newcastle and 20 mins from Carlisle is this little gem. I've played it a few times but revisited with my son two weeks ago. A great James braid layout cut through hills and swales filled with gorse, heather, bracken (not yet out, speaking from experience) and plenty of silver birch and other mature trees. It's a feast for the eyes and the fairways are springy and satisfying. The greens were true and quick, a fair test. I find the course a wonderful example of heathland golf, exciting approach shots to raised greens or having to clear well bunkered approaches, it's a solid and quality experience. I played ok🤣

You didn't mention that it's an advantage to have one leg longer than the other when playing it & that crampons are advised on some of the holes! A mate of mine played there in a Captain's away day, injured his cruciate ligament & hasn't played 18 holes since.

I've not played there, only repeating what others have told me. Don't think I'll be trying it now at my age - not without a buggy, anyway.

It sounds similar to Axecliff in Devon. Another James Braid course where he was given difficult terrain to work with. Far too many blind shots at this course. And very hilly too.

Aye..... played it a few times some years ago & is just too much of a physical challenge to be bothered again. Last occasion was with the Forum Scousers when heading up for the Inverness meet. It was pretty windy that day so the course very quickly got on Birchy's 'Goat Track' list...... but to fair it's better than that!!

Cracking course is Brampton!

My wife's family are Carlisle based and I've played it a couple of times with her Uncle - really enjoyed it both times! Some real quirky holes and brilliantly designed!
