Located 20 minutes from Durham and 30 mins from Newcastle I visited South Moor with my son as a homage to McKenzie and the fact the Masters was building up
Bargain green fee of £35 saw both of us onto the course at 1:50 on a glorious, if breezy, day. First impressions were ok, not the absolute smartest but definitely very acceptable. Staff in bar (and members / patrons I passed) all very friendly. Course is another heathland number so gorse, heather, birch trees, lovely springy fairways and that satisfying thud this turf gives were all present
Found it a very good course in very good condition - a very fair test. Particular highs were the amount of shots above and below the fairway lie or tee shot. The cambers to the fairways really throw a good shot round into great positions. Highly recommended
