as in left handed peeps playing right handed as I do or vice versa

does this hinder a golfer or has no impact whatsoever?

was just curious so please feel free to comment away :)

i'm a lefty playing right. i was told by my pro from the start that i will strugle to have a instinctively ''in to out'' swing as i lead with the left left hand. my swing thought is a fore arm tennis shot with my rigtht. still have a over the top swing but working on it

This may explain the problems I've always had (until recently) with out-to-in over the top swinging as I am also left handed.

It was what felt comfortable when I took up the game aged 8. Never saw any reason to change. I swing a cricket bat and baseball bat the same way, but use my left arm for tennis etc..

But I play guitar left handed.

I'm a left hander playing righty and am keen to know what the consensus is here.

Its fair to say I have issues with the b*stard sl*ce...

That being said, Im just back playing from a 10 year absence and havent had anyone look at what is probably an extremely flawed setup/swing.

Phil Mickelson is right handed I think.

I personally believe that this is why he likes having his hands so far forward in his putting stroke, so that he can get his dominant right eye behind the line of the putt. (assuming he is right eye dominant, which most, but not all, right handers are)

I'm left eye dominant but play right handed and I used to putt with my hands way forward like Phil. I have now changed to a more orthadox ball position but I have real alignement problems and I think its because my dominant left eye is not behind the ball...

No proof of any of this by the way just me guessing really. To answer your question no I dont think it makes a difference considering Phil is pretty good at the game but maybe it would make a difference if you are taking the game up later in life.

exactly the same Aztecs, golf & cricket right handed. Tennis, snooker, in fact everything else totally left handed, even trying them right handed feel's wrong... wierd :)

At the weekend i was told about a left hander, who played golf left handed. On the last hole of a round he tried one of his right handed partners clubs. He has never played left handed again, and is much better right handed.

I seem to remember hearing that having a physically stronger left hand than right was actually good for a golf swing, and that the hands worked together better.

In cricket, a lot of batsman including Graham Thorpe, bat left handed rather than right, although they bowl right handed. Probably stops you playing across the line too much.

100% right handed and right eye dominant and play cricket, golf and lacrosse "left handed". Any racket sports I play right handed.

Effectively I lead with my strong right side. Probably why my natural swing is out to in.

I believe that Phil M, Mike Weir, Chris Gane and a few other lefties are predominately right handed as are many of the better strokemakers in cricket.

Similarly, there are many left handed people that play golf, cricket, etc "right handed".

Never understood why when you lead with your left hand you are called right handed. :D :D :D

I'm a leftie and play right.

My old, old pro was the same. He got down to 2 or something and then started all over (playing left instead) on the advice of a top coach. The top coach was right (correct), he got a plus h'cap within 2 years or so.

I play the Piano right handed too. :)

I'm left handed but play golf right handed. Can only throw with my right arm, play snooker left handed. Tennis I always play back hand so depending which side the ball is going too I swap the racket so I play the shot on my back hand. Played hockey right handed. Played football with both feet, right might of been slightly stronger. So basically I'm just strange.

Another leftie here playing right handed - but I putt left-handed for some reason. I think its because I feel I use my forehand stroke when putting, but my backhand when using the other clubs. I actually putted right-handed (with the yips) for ages before trying left-handed and I certainly had that "wow this is soo much easier" feeling when I changed over.

For me the golf swing is a backhand swing, and the putt is a forehand swing. Don't ask me why. Cricket I'm right-handed too, but snooker, darts, tennis, writing, most other things (except knife and fork for some reason) I'm left handed.

I don't think its affected me negatively. I used to have a slightly out-to-in swing, but with a bit of practice I fixed it. It's also handy to be able to play the occasional left-handed chip shot if I need to.

I'm a leftie who playes golf right handed and bats right handed at cricket. I am also right handed at raquet sports but was predominantly left footed at football and snooker, darts etc.

I have never seen a left footed snooker and dart player. Did you have to take your socks off ? :D :D :D :D

I'm a leftie. But...
Golf,cricket,football,throwing,knife and fork right. But...
putt left. Am thinking of trying left handed wedges to see if it works. That is if I can find some free ones to try!

Is the game not hard enough already? I'm a righty, playing right handed clubs. It has to be easier doing it the natural way round, surely.

Please explain in less than 1000 words why being a right handed person and playing golf "right handed" (i.e. leading with your left side) is the natural way round. Even the face of the club is to the left. :D :D

Yes please explain! I've always wondered why most right-handers don't play left-handed.
