Had a lesson on Wednesday out on the course.

1st tee, took up my stance, waggled then unleashed a badly sliced drive! :( As usual!.

My teacher immediately asked me to take up my stance again, which I did.
He then put his finger on top of the driver and asked me to stand behind the ball and lok at the direction the driver face was pointing......well right!
I took up my stance again, this time he placed his club across the front of my shoulders......pointing well left. He also suggested I slow down my swing considerably and reduce it by half!
In a nutshell, with a bit more instruction and practice swings I hit, what I thought was a very timid shot, further than my initial wild thrash.

Food for thought, I think many of us think that the harder we swing, the further it will go. I also believe that an abbreviated backswing allows more control, resulting in a more accurate shot off the tee.

My tee shot practice regime now consists of making an effort to maintain a shorter backswing and slower, less hurried tempo. Hopefully the results will be obvious with better lying 2nd shots come the next competition.

Anyone else feel the need to thrash the cover off the ball on the tee?
I think it's an amateur fault many have as we feel that the longer and harder we swing, the further the ball will go.

Club and ball manufacturers spend millions of pounds/dollars in research and development to produce equipment to make the ball go as far as possible, and we step up behind it and try and make it go 50 yards further! I think it is a man thing! ;)
