Landing on the wrong green!

Hi All,

Quick question - what is the rule if you land on the wrong green? (i.e hook the ball on a par 3 onto an adjacent green!) - apart from packing my clubs up and going home for playing such a bad shot..... but officially what should I do?

You mark the position of the ball, lift and drop on the nearest point off the green not nearer the hole and not in a hazard. No penalty.
You are not allowed to play off the green.

25-3 - Wrong Putting Green

a. Interference
Interference by a wrong putting green occurs when a ball is on the wrong putting green. Interference to a player’s stance or the area of his intended swing is not, of itself, interference under this Rule.
b. Relief
If a player’s ball lies on a wrong putting green, he must not play the ball as it lies. He must take relief, without penalty, as follows:
The player must lift the ball and drop it within one club-length of and not nearer the hole than the nearest point of relief. The nearest point of relief must not be in a hazard or on a putting green. When dropping the ball within one club-length of the nearest point of relief, the ball must first strike a part of the course at a spot that avoids interference by the wrong putting green and is not in a hazard and not on a putting green. The ball may be cleaned when lifted under this Rule.
PENALTY FOR BREACH OF RULE:
Match play – Loss of hole; Stroke play – Two strokes.

Rule 25-3. You must drop within 1 club length of the nearest point of relief, not nearer the hole. Note, the ball must be on the putting green and it includes a practice green.

Assuming there is no-one waiting to approach the green, you need to pick the ball off the green and drop on the fringe (nearest point of relief) no nearer the hole. Not sure, but think it is no more than two club lengths distance you can drop beyond the edge of the green. Oh this is also a free drop, so no penalty shot.

Don't worry, we have all done it!!

But, double greens like the Old Course dont count as wrong greens
