Hi. My girl friend has just been made Lady Captain of our home club and is looking to arrange some mixed comps this year.
Now, I know from the olden days that alot of men regarded women as a nuisence on the course. They were either
a) rubbish and held everybody up
b) Not a bad player but talked all the way around or
c) a good player which made them a threat.
I would welcome any comments (male and female) if this out of date attitude is still present.
Would you like to play more mixed golf or are women still a nuisence?
Ta :)

All three of the above can and do apply to many male members. I have not had any problems with our lady members but would say that some of our juniors can be "as slow as a week in the jail".

I have to agree, we have 2 lady pro's and I would love to be able to play as well. We have some good ladyy golfers too.

In the end golf is a sport to be enjoyed, I like to walk, talk and have a laugh while playing. I dont care who with - even better if its some of the fine looking ladies. I do however believe that everyone should be quiet when others are playing shots etc.

There is nowt worse than playing with an agressive, dull winger who hates everything and everyone.

Jnr's seem to be the slowest on the course, followed by some of the coffin crew and ladies.

I think women will always be seen as the old enemy to some men (I'll not use the term gents). Its easier to comment on the women as they are not in the same circles in the lounge and will never hear of the criticisms where other slow men might hear and will cause a confrontation. Basically what Im saying is that those that criticise women unjustly only do as as they are backward in confronting another male on the speed of play where women are easy touches.
There are slow players from all age groups and genders. I dont mind playing behind a slow good player as I can stand and watch and maybe pick up a tip or clue on the weather.

Bear with me here, Slow players who do not try to improve their game (like the eternal slicers who are happy to hit it 170 forward and 50 right then complain about left hand side teeboxes) grind my gears. Watching someone make the same mistakes over and over again, then blame the ground, their club, the wind, the green, someone moved, the sky not being quite blue enough, the credit crunch etc, gives me a downer and makes the game hard to enjoy on that particular day.

At my previous club, the Saturday or Sunday comp was scattered with women as they played their comp within the mens. I used to enjoy playing with the ladies now and again and would never hesitate joining a lady for a game. My present club has ladies day on a Tuesday and the mens comp is always on a Saturday. With this, I never get to play with the ladies, and must admit I miss it sometimes. They have quite a few mixed comps through the year at our club, which are more of the knockout type, but most of the women have regular playing partners, so this is difficult to get into as a single fella.

I have no issues at all with women golfers, I have issues with women who golf.

The all the make up, putting hand cream on between shots, every one has to wear matching jumpers, every one follows to each shot like they are tied together with string mob. Most of whom play off 36, and drive the ball 70 yards. They carry a full set of clubs, but the difference between a 7i and an 8i is 1 1/2 yards.

If they can play a bit, are good company, are triers, then I will play with anyone.

Hi Bobmac

As a single woman golfer I have noticed the most arguments in Mixed comps are between husband and wives, because where you might hold your tongue if it is a stranger, couples say things that they wished they could take back. A draw for partners in mixed is great.

In my experience there are three sorts of male golfers

1. The guy who tries really hard to do well and is very good company.
2. There is the one who always insists on telling you what to do even if they are a higher handicap than you.
3. The MCP who would not even contemplate playing with a woman.

We all hate hackers, bigheads, slow play , bores etc, but
If you enjoy someones company and manage to play some good golf between you, then it does not matter if you are male or female.

The trouble with women golfers is they hit the ball further than I can and they get to play from the red tees.

I have never had any issues with lady golfers unlike many on this forum apparently :(. Thay are often as fast or faster in their play as many men maybe because they don't try to hit the ball out of sight (i.e. into the trees). If they are slow then they there is rarely a problem with being called through.

I would love to play in mixed comps but unfortunately the format is usually Foursomes or Greensomes which are forms of golf that I dislike.

The ladies of Sundridge Park take their golf seriously....

TWM, you too can play off the red tees, you just need to hit your drive onto the ladies tee, and then play from there for two.

Yes but with the unwritten rule in play it will be even more embarrassing :D

I don't mind playing the odd mixed summer scramble but to be fair most of the mixed events as laready mentioned are greensomes or worse still foursomes (not the formats, some of the female partners I've had). I would love to play in something like a mixed better ball stableford.

We had the county U18's playing at my course last year. Not only were they all size 8 and very pretty but they hit the ball miles with minimal effort. They were very polite both on and off the course and a credit to their clubs

Never had any more probs with Lady golfers than I have with men, each have different general behavior good or bad but it has never been a problem to me, only difference Ive noticed is when you try to politely advise regarding poor or bad etiquette .

Men will huff and puff or become loud and offensive, spit their dummies out, behave like children and deliberately do things to annoy .
Women in the same situation will huff and puff , ignore you . Am I being a little ott there :D?

Other than that there is no difference, Ive always got on with lady golfers and enjoyed their company, never offer advice unless Im asked, but Im just the same with the fellas. But I do avoid telling women off even if they deserve it as its too much hassle ;).
