Are there any clubs out there who let women play in Men,s comps? We have about 10 ladies who work full time and can only play at the weekend. The problem is that most weekends are really busy and Mens comp on.

Any suggestions?

We have a business ladies tee time of 9.00 til 9.40 when they can tee off on Saturday, unless it is a comp, when they can't. A lot of our comps are on Sunday though. The ladies comp day is Thursday, so I guess if you can't play then you would struggle to put in any cards.

Hey Vicky,

My old club Woodbury Park which is not to far from you let the ladies play with the men in comps. They were running a deal last February where they droped the joining fee. I'm sure if a few ladies showed interest, they would let them join without the joining fee. If you fancy a look around, let me know, and I could introduce you to a few of the members (Men and Ladies) as I still know a lot of peeps up there.

Thanks Neil

We are trying to keep the ladies here and trying to find a solution. I wonder how they seperated the different SS? perhaps had 2 seperate computers. I have never played Woodbury but it is on my list of ones to visit. I heard it is quite long and buggy needed. Roll on the good weather.

I think I misunderstood your intial question.

The ladies play with the men, but they are in their own seperate comp. The computor we had for comps could be set up for both.

Hi
We have very few ladies and only two who play in comps. Our comp set-up is unconventional anyhow (played over a week not all on one day) but no one seems to object to my being included. If the SS is different, strokes are awarded whichever way it is. (I used to get three strokes when men were off yellows, one off whites, but course and SS has now changed so I'm the one who gives strokes - aagh)
Don't know if this helps, but hope you can work something out.

Ladies at Gourock are permitted to play their competition on a Sunday afternoon. Men's medals are played on Saturday all day till half 3 usually and woman can play a bounce game once all medal competitors have tee'd off. I do believe they may have a midweek afternoon medal if they can skive off work to play in it.

I feel this justified as woman dont pay anywhere near as much as myself so we should get priority. They were offered the chance to have the same rights as us at the same price but refused.

Did you read the Bill Elliott article in this months GM (Feb) ?
This detailed an experiment where a club has tried mixed competitions. Perhaps you could put the idea forward at your club.

We have a few mixed comps and can be a bit frustrating as the ladies play off a different card. Now I do not hit the ball a massive distance and some of the ladies can welly it a fair distance so seems unfair that 2 holes are classed as par 5s for the ladies (an extra shot in stroke play) and also play off the forward tees whilst the men move back to the white tees.

Maybe this is just sour grapes for being beaten by the women.

I read that. I think the rainbow tees is a concept clubs would do well to adopt whether it be to allow mixed competition on a regular basis or even just semi regular.

Vicky, would you be looking to play off the Medal tees whilst participating in the Mens Comp or play off the regular ladies tee? (assuming they are different of course!)
