Hi all,

I have a friendly 2 ball coming up this week with a guy from work and we are coming up with a few side bets to add interest to the round.
So far we have the following:

£2 nearest pin on all par 3’s
£2 Nearest pin in two on 13th hole (short par 4)
£1 skins

I was wondering what side bets you often play for during a friendly knock up with mates...

cheers

snakes is often a good one. Any time you 3 putt you add one to the snake, for say 50p a time. Whoever is left holding the snake at the end pays the price times how many the snake is on.

You are doing it right by keeping the value low...in our fourball every sat/sun as well as the club comp we play £5 front nine, £5 back nine, £5 overall and £1 every par 3 X 5 so works out quite expensive, not to mention competative sometimes to the extreme....there is nothing worse than hearing 'chippy tea, chippy tea' all the way down the last when you have had a bad round...lol

I think keeping the stakes low is a good idea, after all it's not the money it's more about the pish take, at least it is with my regular playing partner, if you pitch the stakes too high it all gets very serious and it's not long before there's a falling out. we play 10p a hole, 50p front nine, 50p back nine , £1 for the full eighteen. We play for £1 nearest the pin on par threes and £1 for the longest drive on the par fives. So plenty of interest and the most I've paid out is around three quid (and I'm absolutly useless) Of course if you play a four ball and you have to pay three out even low stakes could get expensive so ajust accordingly.

Play 50p bits, birdies, eagles, sandy pars, ferrets, golden ferrets, ouzlams, reverse ouzlams.

Any chance of subtitles for the slow and dense amongst us. We play £2 in the kitty per man and divi it up depending on how many are in. The winner has to buy the chips. We don't usually have anything on birides or sand saves and all these other exotic sounding things seem way to hard to keep tally on

First three are self explanatory, although i used to play sandies only on par threes, but others play them on all holes. Ferret is a chip in, golden ferret is holed bunker shot. Ouzlam is nearest the pin on the green on a par 3. If no one is on the green carry over to next par three. Reverse ouzlam is when the nearest the pin on the green doesn't get down in at least par,i.e 3 or 4 putts and pays out the other players.

Too much hassle doing all of that, I always get the feeling it is more of a money making effort than a game of golf so stick to £1 first9, second nine and overall. £3 doesnt break the bank and allows you to concentrate on YOUR card.

You are right he did, I just think that if you want to make money, play poker. I played footy for years but never had side bets with the opposition. Each to their own though as I know many fellas who do have camels, oozlers, saddams, snakes etc. Its just not for me.

As its not a comp and just a friendly knock up with a colleague then its all good natured fun, nothing serious. We are playing for bragging rights, lunch money and some good banta to bring back to the office Monday morning....
