Went up to the club tonight to watch our team play a pre-season friendly against Hartlepool GC, wandered around the course watching a few matches till I got to our 7th were I saw our No1 playing their No1, our guy is off 1 and their player was a 17yr old kid called Jack Ainscough who plays off +2, wow, just wow, what a great way to spend a spring evening.
I'm sure lots on here know talented golfers but to watch this 17yr old kid was an absolute pleasure, he had it all, control and distance off the tee, long game, short game and putting.
He was also a very polite and well mannered kid, completely down to earth.
Our No1 had only lost 1 singles match at home in over 10yrs until tonight, now it's 2, Jack closed the match on our 565yd Par 5 16th with a birdie.
He's off to Uni in Colarado in August doing a Sports Science degree.
Good luck to the kid and hopefully see him turn pro in the future.

Nice to read especially the bit about being down to earth. I hope the college course goes well and he manages to find a way onto the tour ranks although we all know how hard it can be especially via the US collegiate system. Hopefully he'll manage it and if not, that he can come back to Europe and use that experience to get a card over here

I was playing at Knaresbrough a few years ago when a junior match caught us up, Oakdale v Knaresbrough two strong clubs. We immediately stood to one side to let them through, they were the number ones of each club, we were on the 17th tee. We followed behind them for the last two holes and saw a masterclass in golf. What a pleasure. The interesting bit was hitting our shots after they had hit theirs. They were playing a different game.

Always good to watch good juniors play. They are so free in their ball striking.

He's been banned and chucked out of Hartlepool GC (I'm sure that was him they mentioned last night)

There are some fantastic youngsters out there. We've got a lad who's off +4, plays for England and is in the provisional squad for the Walker Cup (having been 2nd alternate in 2015).
He won our club champ's aged only 12
