Played golf yesterday and was all set for a PB after a good front Nine(knowing the back nine was easier) when my playing partner suddenly lost the plot and spraying balls everywhere. Not so distracting at first but then he starting F'ing and blinding throwing clubs and hitting his bag. We were being held up a little but the course was busy so was to be expected and no reason for what happened

In the space of 3 holes (par3 10th,4 11th ,4 12th) my score fell apart with a 6,6,12 and I was now fuming. We tee'd off on the par5 13th and said partner threw his club in the bag and walked off. The other players in our group and I laughed about what had just gone on and waved the group behind through to compose ourselves. The scores tumbled again and I finished well but my card was already ruined.

Said playing partner was as nice as could be through 8 and was scoring fine but when his game left him, what a temper. I'll try and avoid him from here on in

I trust you mean 'Fellow Competitor'!

Next time you see him, mention what had happened!

'<Name>. Just thought I'd mention that your childish lack of control managed to turn the good round I was having into a bad one. It improved again once you, much to our amusement, left. But next time please remember that such selfish, petulant, lack of restraint can also affect your fellow competitors. If you are going to behave like that again, please either warn folk so they can avoid playing with you, or go find another pastime!'

Anyone is entitled to let of a bit of steam occasionally/rarely but restraint is part of what the game is about.

I've played with a couple of regular club-chuckers. With Tantrum Tom, after the 3rd series of beating the offending club into the ground, I simply stated that his antics were pissing me off, so please desist! We all had a much better round after that!

Sounds like both you and Huffy McHufster suffer from the same mental challenge to your scoring (albeit different triggers)

I often read on here about folks dealing with a distraction of any kind either self inflicted or something/someone else that puts paid to a good score

Doesn't seem to be something that we golfers practice to overcome either (which is weird if it can give us half a dozen shots a round)

Turn it on its head and think of it as an opportunity. When he's ranting and raving, it gives you more time to confirm the distance and club choice - he's actually doing you a favour.

I could look at it that way but here is only so much you can ignore when other golfers on the course are being affected by it aswell. There has been a complaint against him today by someone and apparently he has aplogised to the club sec, but others have come out of the woodwork and said its a regular occurrence.

Looking back and ignoring those 3 holes, my driving was good, approach play better and with some practice with the putter it will be happy days :D

One of my fellow competitors was the same, even snapped his sand wedge in half on the 9th. Had my best round ever in competition, cant way to play with him again ;)

I used to play with a guy like that once- one day he was so peed off with his game he hit his second shot to a par 4, walked up to the ball......and kept on walking....right off the course, never saw him again to this day- pity as he was a good bloke off the course but a bad tempered tw@t on it.
