Hi all,

As the title says... I have a knee injury that I would like to ask a question or two about. I will not bang on about it unless someone who knows what they are on about is interested. Yes I have talked to my GP.

Any of the above(in the title) in the house?

Thanks

Al

PM bunkers, he'll help you out.

If he's on call or on shift he may not reply straight away but I'm sure he'll offer you some good advice.

Hi Alex1975,
let's get one thing clear..............I am NOT a doctor!
Unfortunately I do have some experience with knee issues due to wear & tear rather than impact injury.............if that makes sense.
Too much footy in my youth without proper warming up or down. Most of the damage was ligament related & my doctors said that they would heal pretty well over time, with plenty of rest, blah, blah, blah....
I ended up having an arthroscopy (key hole surgery) on my left knee.........bingo........after a few weeks I was pain free & fully operative again.
When my right knee started playing up I had surgery as soon as I could make them do it & have never looked back.
Left knee op about 25 yrs ago, right knee about 12 years ago. Took up skiing about 7 years ago, just before my 46th birthday and have had no knee issues at all............not yet anyway!
Moral of the story, if offered key hole surgery to clean the knee joint up, I would say go for it now. That way you'll be fighting fit in time for the decent golfing weather.

Wishing you well whatever the outcome,

Slime.

Alex if you find one let me know as I have a rotator cuff problem. Been to the doctor and now have to wait for physio which no doubt will be some time off. Just got over tennis elbow and now this. The older you get the longer these injuries take to heal.:(

Spend a bit of your hard earned on seeing a sports physio.

Any good one should get you sorted before you even get to the top of the NHS waiting list.

Are we related?
I had a rotator cuff issue a few weeks ago, impingement syndrome he called it and have been suffering from tennis elbow since may! Both on my left side btw.
Tennis elbow has not responded to physio or accupuncture but I'm trying a homeopathic remedy as recommended on this site by JustOne. They are tablets called Ruta Graveolens. Been on them for about a week.....no change yet.......need to give them another three weeks before I make a ruling on them.
As for the shoulder problem, again, physio & accupuncture were no good & I hate taking painkillers/anti-inflamatories so my doctor gave me a cortisone injection. I then endured two days of constant ache followed by ! That's right, nothing. Pain gone.
There was dancing in the streets of Godalming that night.
I'm still doing a couple of excersises to prevent the impingement returning although the doctor said I may have a bit of osteoarthritis in there, getting old can be a right arse!
BTW, how did you get over your tennis elbow?

All the best,

Slime.

In short I seem to have damaged my ligament on the back of my left knee, the doctor pocked it and it hurt so much that I pulled my leg away. He told me there was some swelling/fluid there and told me to use an ibugel to help move the swelling/fluid away.

There is now no pain and very little strain in the ligament now but my knee cap clicks and the whole knee feels weak at times... not all the time.

I would say that driving the car has not helped this at all but I can not avoid it.

It has maybe been two and a half months now since it happened, I guess the clicking is air? I hope!!

Is this just all part of it repairing?

I don't like the doctors and I flat out don't go to hospitals unless we are having a baby.

Hi Alex, I am a Doctor but i would not try to do internet diagnoses, but sounds like you've had it long enough to warrant an MR scan or arthroscopy, back to your GP would be my advice or change your GP if you don't get a satisfactory response.

Took me three years to get rid of tennis elbow, but I have suffered with it on and off for over 10 years. I have hyper extension in my elbows which doesn't help. Continued to play tennis and golf so that didn't help speed up the recovey. Problem is in my right elbow, so whilst not good for tennis is not too bad for golf. If I hadn't got tennis elbow I would never have taken up golf again, so not all bad.

I was told by the Doc that an injection would be no good for my shoulder, as it was only good for a frozen shoulder. Am going to keep taking the pills and hope it goes away.:mmm:

i had this exact problem due to a football injury. It went on for months the clicking and giving out etc. I had an Arthroscopy and they removed cartlidge that was torn and also a piece of the back of my knee cap that had broke off. I knew i needed the op as i could feel the pain and clicking etc. 3consultants later i finally had it agreed and booked in. the best thing to do is keep pestering them thats what i had to do. Dont let them mug you off with an xray as this doesnt show up soft tissue very well. You need an MRI scan which gives a full cross cut picture of your knee and they can see perfect what damage there is.
I had slight ligament damage but it has pretty much healed it self which is also what they checked on the op.

If you dont like drs or ops i can assure you its fully worth it i was mobile again in a couple days and suffered no adverse reactions accept the evening of the op when the anesthetic fully wore off and i sorted that with co-codamol.

anymore info i will be happy to help as i made a few posts about this when chatting to mr t when he hurt his leg.

I guess that I am nearly a surgeon, with a, knee reconstruction ACL graft, and 2 hip resurfaces as well as having my tonsils out at 45 years old (horrendus), 2 cartilage operations and a knee clean out - sorry! I just remembered I was asleep for all of them and cant remember a thing!

Good luck, suggest you go see your doctor again

I am scared!!!!

Ah knees.

After nigh on 20 operations on mine I share your pain.

Could be a cartilage tear (I hope really). If thats the case the op is done and you walk out of hospital the same day.

If it feels weak I hope it isn't the ligaments as they don't repair as such, hence me having 7 of the 8 in my 2 knees replaced!

Would definitely recommend going to see an Orthopaedic (sp?) doctor/surgeon though.

I used to have knee problems when i played sport, all came from a rugby injury which left me with quite a long scar, had a bit of physio but never went to a doctor and its gone now, took a while though, go and get it checked out, im not a doctor but i do GCSE PE so we learn about all the ligaments and stuff and if its at the back it could be your ACL and its not worth messing around with that because if you leave it you could suffer a lot later in life, if you look at top sports professionals who hurt their ACL they have operations within a week and are back to normal in about 6 months, if you leave it that recovery time will only lengthen, i posted about the NHS being a pain a few days ago but at least you will be diagnosed properly

Im not gonna lie I was pretty terrified about what they'd say about my elbow and how bad it was, but theres nothing to be scared of :)

Just recovered from a knee injury which lost me most of last season. I didn't go for proper medical advice last March when it happened and tried to soldier on my own. Finally succumbed to it in early June and had to go to see Doc and was referred to a Physio. What had been a first degree MCL sprain ended up in a second degree sprain due to my own unwillingness to seek medical advice.

Physio took 4 months to get things back on track and the muscle wastage around the knee was fairly rapid and extensive. Get proper advice and do what they tell you.
