Increased bar prices

Dodger, surely a golf club is there to be run at it's best, for the course to be immaculate and for it to be at the cheapest of costs. To top it all members have to gripe at it.

Is that not the rules?????

The Golden Rule is the Members MUST moan, especially at the things that deserve no moaning at all....otherwise it would not be a golf course. Some of the things I hear are just unbelievable, really, you would not believe some of the crap that goes on.

When I got into Golf Management a person close to me said regards my home club "Away from the golf club our members are lovely, sensible people but once they cross over the railway crossing on the way down to Goswick they turn into penises with a brain the size of a 6 month old child".

Truer words have not been spoken.;)

Never a truer word indeed, when I attended our AGM i was astonished at the gripe on the cost of greenkeepers, our 6 greenkeepers (inc a head greenkeeper) costing the club £120k a year including O/T, not a lot by any means and even then these members were moaning that the cost was high, the same members who moan that there is not enough work done on the course?????

Mental.

it amazes me how some on here are a bit narrow minded, you join a club buy all the latest gear, expect the course to be in fabulous condition every time you play then moan about a few pence on a pint or state that you never buy a drink in the club, what kind of members are you.i have just moved clubs but will do the same at my new one as i did at my past every saturday i will put £50 on my card, this will pay for my drinks ( shandy )and food,is this not part of belonging to the club,we had some at the old club changed their shoes in the car park, got their comp card from the pro shop, drank the supermarket drinks as they played, put their cards in the slot when finished then home,in my estimation they were not proper members just people who played at the same course and in most cases we would avoid playing with them.

Ours went up recently too, to cover a shortfall from green fees last year and some restructuring costs. We are also planning to increase the greenkeeping budget too. For me this is the way we shod be running our club, any profits ploughed straight back in for members benefits.

Have they said why they've gone up? Giving members a discount seems pretty reasonable to me.

I don't know what a pint costs at our place but I don't hear anyone moaning about prices(and they moan about everything else) so they must be OK. For me the club bar is an important part of the club and the accounts are there for all to see so there's no reason for me to think they are ripping us off, if they were they'd get found out pretty quickly.

No they shouldn't,all this non profit pish is exactly that....pish.How do you continue to progress a business that is continually loss making?

Pish,utter pish.

By that I mean profit straight back into the club in facilities improvement etc, not in to the bank because it looks good there or waiting on a rainy day.

I feel it unfair that visitors should pay full price, if the clubs can afford to reduce drinks for members and still make a profit surely visitors should get the discount too.

After all they have just paid full price for a round of golf & chosen to spend even more money.

I say the drinks discount should apply to all

Maybe discounted food too, I've lost count the amount of times me and my mates have been for around
Of golf somewhere and had plans to have a meal and a few drinks in the clubhouse afterwards.

Only to be put off by expensive drinks & food

Or even worse rude members lookin at you like you have two heads.

At the end of the day visitors money is as good as a members & it will spend anywhere.

Members get reduced prices because they have already unloaded hundreds in membership fees. It is one function used to keep members and is also another reason to become a member.
We have a 50 quid social levy which is loaded onto our cards and when used gives us a 15 percent discount. 2.50 a pint isnt a bad price given the current pub prices. Anyone who complains/begrudges spending a few quid in their club really needs to rethink their membership.

Beer prices go up, more duty each year and higher supplier prices. How could a club keep their head above water if they didn't pass on these costs to it's customers? Look at the number of Pubs that close down each year.

I think the OP should sit down in a darkened room for a bit and think it through.

The only thing I can think off to defend the OP in the tiniest of ways is that the club have been hiked by a price charge from their suppliers and have to pass it on to the members and guests. It happens but to be honest the club are only really penalising the visitors anyway who pay the full whack and don't get the discount which efectively keeps the prices the same.

I go to a lot of clubs, including for matches and often the host club has a bar card scheme for members and visitors pay the full price. I have never once thought I won't play the match as its unfair that I'm getting hit in the pocket if I have to buy a round for my partners. At the end of the the majority of clubs are still cheaper than the local pub even at full price. No wonder the OP's club are struggling if they all take that attitude. I bet you can't get to the bar on a Saturday lunchtime for all the tumbleweed

I can't ever remember playing at my club, and not going in for a drink, and more often that not something to eat. It is not compulsary to put any money on the card like at some clubs. I am glad no records are kept to say how much I spend in a year, but I imagine it must be in excess of £500. Good job HID doesn't read this.
