Suggest you tell that to a host of the young guns on both tours then as many have them in
Bought a 20* hybrid and couldn't get on with it. Put it in the garage for a month or so to teach it a lesson. I then brought it back out again, and it would appear by punishing it may it think again and behave more sensibly. In fact, it behaved so well I bought it's friend a 23* hybrid. As far as irons go I only use the 6,7,8,9 PW+SW. The lesson is that we need to be a bit more understanding of our clubs, and punish them when necessary

Is this belittlement really necessary (with the greatest of respect to the Ladies)! We are hitting golf balls with legal and conforming golf clubs and that should be the end of it! Perhaps you should try some hybrids yourself Smiffy, as they might improve your game!

I find it loads easier to hit a hybrid than both a long iron and a fairway wood. I use a 22* hybrid but looking to add another around 17*
I have just replaced my TM Burner hybrid with an Adam Tight Lies2 fairway wood (19 degree) as I just couldn't get used to the shape of the hybrid. After 1 session on the range with the new club I am looking at getting a higher lofted version - possibly 22 or 23 degree.

Now that's interesting. I always figured that - loft for loft - hybrids go further and higher than the corresponding irons. In my first set I used a 4 and 3 hybrid, but with my new irons, I am just trying to hit a 4 iron instead of a hybrid since I didn't like the flight I was getting with the hybrid in windy conditions.

1) There is no hosel so you can't shank them.
2) The rounded sole makes them easier to hit from awkward sidehill lies, and you can get away with slight fat shots because there is no sharp leading edge to dig in. Also you don't need them custom fitted for lie.
3) Unlike irons, they don't turn over when trying to hit from rough.
4) They usually hit the ball 10 yards further than the equivalent iron.
What is there not to like?
1) I've certainly hit them 40+ degrees right!!
2)Certainly more forgiving, but that doesn't mean they are perfectly matched to your needs 'straight out of the box'! Btw. As long as they are consistent, I can hit irons that are +4* or -4* of standard after a few swings!
3) See 2! But certainly less likely to do so.
4) Surely that means that they are not actually 'the equivalent iron' - merely equivalent to that illusiory 'perfect strike with the equivalent iron'.
Btw. As you can see from my sig, I'm a real fan of hybrids! Anyone - including low cappers - who can get on with them (and there are certainly some who either can't or haven't found the right style) and hasn't employed them is a fool imo!
Rather 'proves' the above point!
Oh and I was 5 over in position A on the 18th yesterday - I'll claim it was the plonker who hit his Drive over my head that caused the Double!

I've still hit my fair share of horrors including nearly missing the ball with my hybrid. It still needs the idiot holding it to make a passable effort at the golf swing

Not liking the sound of these hybrid clubs
While hybrids won't hit the ball for you, they do make life much easier for many players. I can't hit my 4-iron any further than my 5-iron, and the 5-iron not really much further than my 6-iron, but I can get a decent amount of distance from a 3 or 4 hybrid. They don't seem to require any special technique, just slightly forward of centre in your stance and hit down on the ball like an iron. You can also sweep them away like a fairway wood if that style suits you better.

Me and hybrids have had a chequered history. When my slice was in its full glory, it was the only club I used or could use off the tee. Times have changed, and now they are the work of the devil!
Hard to beat a 7 wood. You can snap them though, I should know, ive done 2 of them in. Both round a tree on the follow through

I have tried hybrids before and don't get on with them.
They certainly wouldn't improve my game.

It took me a while to get used to the petrol engine cutting out and the batteries taking over but that aside...

I like a hybrid and carry Nike Vapor 4. The only thing I find is that it can be moody - sometimes hitting the ball nicely, although not always. But I suspect that's more to do with my ball position.

I have had the 3 hybrid for some time Frank but I was at the range and a lad saw that I had a Callaway hybrid and offered me his virtually unused 5 hybrid for £25 - I couldn't reuse as it had the same shaft and went about 185 yards with a nice high flight and soft landing.
Perfect clubs imo
