1) There is no hosel so you can't shank them.

2) The rounded sole makes them easier to hit from awkward sidehill lies, and you can get away with slight fat shots because there is no sharp leading edge to dig in. Also you don't need them custom fitted for lie.

3) Unlike irons, they don't turn over when trying to hit from rough.

4) They usually hit the ball 10 yards further than the equivalent iron.

What is there not to like? :)

1 They go sky high

2 They go left

3 they cause gap issues because there loft is to strong and shaft to long to blend into your iron sets.

I admit that I often carry both a 5-hybrid and a 5-iron, because the hybrid goes further. However I can leave the 5-iron out and just go a couple of inches down the grip of the hybrid to hit it about the same distance. :)

Hybrids are for pensioners or females, give me the feeling of a well struck long iron any day. The day I need to put a hybrid in the bag is the day I need to take up bowling.

I saw Phil Mickelson hit one earlier today, he is neither a Pensioner or a Female.

I am a pensioner, and I find hybrids much easier to hit than long irons. My current handicap is 12, but it would probably be about 18 if I was forced to only use irons. I'm not proud or stubborn, I just use what works best for me! :)

I can understand that as your are a pensioner who still enjoys his golf but I just don't like them & not sure I would ever use them even in my twighlight years.

Do you use fairway woods? Hybrids are just shorter versions of those with similar shaped but slightly less deep (front to back) heads. If you can hit good shots with fairways, then hybrids are even easier. I have just acquired a Cobra 5-wood and that is easy to hit and goes nearly as far as my driver. As lack of length is becoming an issue for me, what more could I want? :)

That's entirely your choice though. They are a golf club, ergo playing them is golf. No matter who you are or what age you are. To state otherwise is frankly nonsense. By all means don't use them but don't try to peddle your own prejudice on others 😀

I never liked hybrids, just couldn't get on with them at all but fairways were fine. Over the course of the last 4 months, I now have 2 and debating a 3rd! They are so easy to hit and just fly.

I can't hit a hybrid for toffee.
Try to play it like an iron and fat it 30 yards, try to play it like a wood and thin it 50.
I'd rather take my chances and give it an oink with a 5 wood.

Have a hybrid and a 3 iron - mainly use the 3 iron during days when not playing links golf - it goes further and I can get it to land softer

Seen someone suggest Hybrids are for females and pensioners - maybe add in major champs , Ryder cup players , world number ones
