I remember taking my son for boots years ago.
He picked a silver pair.
I asked him “ are you good enough to wear them”
He answered “ they will do ,they havnt got any gold ones.”

In my day black Pele Rio or white Hummel by Alan Ball I think.
 
I feel your pain. My older son is now into adult sizes so we're looking at at least £70/80 to get him new boots.

Had a stroke of luck recently as I picked up a pair second hand for £5 to wear when I run the line as I was fed up with my trainers getting ruined. Older boys boots got too tight for him so he tried mine on and now he loves them. Will get myself another pair for less than a tenner and I'm quids in. Might have to get a few spare pairs in for him to try on when his boots get too tight.
 
When I started work as an apprentice I treated myself to top of the range football boots. About £100 back in (2003)

So I guess inflation is behind the rise

But then, golf shoes.. some of the prices of them
 
Talking of footie boots we used to live next to Bryan Douglas’s mother who played on the right wing for England in the 58 World Cup in Sweden when 4 home nations qualified.

I received his boots which were soft leather, screw in studs, 3 different types of studs dependent on the conditions. The slight problem was that the toe on the left boot had wear from when he crossed presumably from the left but the boots were years ahead of what was available then.
 
I have a pair of my dads old 1940s boots.
I just don’t know how they played in them.
Nail in leather studs they look more like working boots.

I didn’t know Brian’s mother played for England on the wing.;)
 
When I first played at school 1957/8 'ish we had, over the ankle cover, hard toe caps, and studs were held in with 3 or 4 nails, the laces were so long they just wound, round and round the boot until they could be tied. The ball was leather with a big lace to tie it up and when you headed it it left a mark on the forehead like an operation scar !

They sound just like my dads.
We used to play in the garden with said ball , it really hurt if you headed the lace.
Great memories though.
