But the ointment is helping. Actually I did. I remember when I played Union for Runcorn and was accused off playing League at the same time (ah those where the days). It wasn't me but somebody who looked like me. I've got a photo of when we played on Fairfield pitch, I think between Christmas and New Year.

If its the picture I've seen its like a rugby league version of something from the film Kes. All of us covered in mud, mist descending on a cold dank December afternoon, brilliant. Was that the day you tore your calf so badly you could barely walk off the field and I was gutted because you were going to get a few weeks off work?

I get all my boots from ProDirectSoccer.com. They're always selling off last season's designs and so on for cheaper prices. You can easily get £150+ boots for 60, 70 quid on there.

That's the one.

That used to me my trick with golf shoes but even older models are now expensive. Used to pick up last year's top of the range shoes for about £50 but then again, they were £100-£125 new. Now you are looking at £200 for the top of the range golf shoes and even more basic models on sale are £80 plus. Not much difference between a spikeless golf shoe and an astroturf trainer but add the word 'golf' to the description and you can also add another 50% to the price tag.

As with the kids stuff, always has been about peer pressure. Back in my day it was more to do with trainers than football boots but there was always something that was not better quality but 3 times the price that was the must have.

I guess the difference now is that parents in my day were more willing to be up front about not being able to afford something and the kids were the same, you were please if a mate had some really nice trainers rather than being given grief because you did not have pair.

When I first moving to this area I kept being stopped in the street by young folk who I did not know.
When I said that they had made a mistake I got a strange look and some very puzzled faces.

Later I was at a staff training/Info meeting and the guy sitting opposite on a table of 10/12 looked exactly like me.
He was a Head Teacher at one of the schools.
Handsome looking guy. ;)

Not sure. Your memory is better than mine. I remember the agony of the injury though!
Bet that while the memory that the pain was bad, you don't actually don't remember the actual pain - unless it's actually still there!
The brain seems to have a way of forgetting such things - fortunately, for several of my incidents!
Not sure it works the same way with animals, or just that they remember circumstances where they got hurt. The number of refusals by horses for example, in circumstances apparently similar to previous bad experiences, indicates 'trust' only goes so far!

You remember the pain but it never stopped me from going back and doing all the same stupid things as soon as they were healed. :ROFLMAO:

They sound just like my dads.
We used to play in the garden with said ball , it really hurt if you headed the lace.
Great memories though.
Just think how it felt to head those balls in the 80th, minute on old style pitches, with the rain pouring down! No wonder there's significant increased incidence (3 times) of Dementia (not simply explained by longer life) amongst players of that era!

Sorry to hear that.
Thank you.
He had a good innings 84.
Wasn’t until the last six months or so.
He played until his middle fifties for local teams.
Terrific footballer, but it skipped a generation I think as I didn’t inherit his ability.;)
Bit surreal as sometimes in my teens it was me going to watch dad play instead of the other way around.
Great memories.

Back many years we started a pub team and one of the pub regulars was a certain Peter Sillett of Chelsea fame. I believe he held the defenders top scoring record until John Terry surpassed him. Peter was a lovely person and helped us run the team as a sort of background manager. He said he'd sort out a kit for the start of the season, so when we filled in the team entry form he told us to leave shirt colour blank. On the day of the last pre season friendly he turned up with a box of kit - it was an actual Man Utd kit, the lot from socks to shirts and shorts all with the embroidered badge, which was in the day when local clubs only provided shirts ! I was Martin Buchan if i remember correctly wearing number 5.
