I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Played with a mate and his 2 sons this morning.
Played a match play off scratch 6 holes Foursomes 6 holes Greensomes 6 holes fourballs.
Good fun and actually played okish.

His 2 lads have not been playing long and great watching them have all their firsts.

They are roughly the same standard and gave each other banter all the way round, great to see.

First game of the year this morning.
8:10am first off and a two-ball with a 20-handicap mate. Giving him 15 shots, we played matchplay.

Only my 4th go with the new driver and irons, and first go with the Cobra Baffler hybrid 18° stiff shaft that arrived only yesterday.
Left out the 3-wood and the 19° iron, but put a 23° baffler in.
Hit the hybrid as second shot on all 3 par 5s and on one long par 4. Very chuffed indeed with my £24.56 purchase. See it on I bought today, Friday.
It will be a permanent fixture in the bag.

We were round in 3hr 10 min. I won 4&3 and was 4-over par at that point. Par, par, bogey finish for 5-over. Pretty chuffed with that to be honest, having not played for 24 days.
Taking only 29 putts helps. One birdie - a 2 of course, at hole number 4. Used the 29° 7-iron from the tee.
If I had my Eye2s in the bag it would have been the 28° 5-iron. The i10s would have been tricky, 27°(5) or 30.5°(6) would have been between-clubs today.

Still not "fluent-thinking" with regards to club-selection with the i530 irons, but did not make a mistake. I've written the lofts on with marker pen for the time being as an aid.
I have a "rough guide, sort-of" chart in my head for loft/carry with any irons, as I play with some old sets sometimes. I will eventually have a specific one with these new irons.
Anyway - feeling rather optimistic for the year ahead. Hope to see the HI 5.0 tumbling down a bit in the summer.

Looks like some dreich weather days for the rest of this month, so I don't expect another outing until well into Feb.

It was a bit of a damp one today but we had our 12 hole comp (reduced to 11 due to health and safety closing one hole) I had a very similar round to last week, pretty steady, nothing worse than a bogey, and 24 points which is a couple better than 2s. However at least 5 times I was close to the green and failed to get up and down, also a couple of times hit very good approaches to around 5 feet but hit weak putts. Actually took 20 putts which was a few too many. It is winter though and greens are a bit bobbly so can't really moan .

Not sure how many courses around me will be open today as ours was pretty wet with standing water in a lot of places, bunkers filled to the brim with water etc.

Same story as last week, hit it well but short game has all but disappeared. 4 times I took 4 to get down from the side of the green, also lost a ball in the first cut, suspect it plugged as we found the other 2 that were in the same area.

The only putt I made all day was for a 2 on one of the designated 2’s hole so I should have a couple of quid coming back for that at least.

Just happy to be able to get out and play, especially on main greens.

Another match with my 12 handicap mate this morning. We both played well and had a great match. I was on fire for a bit of the front nine, par-par-birdie on the 4th to the 6th put me three up. He kept fighting back though, and even though I kept playing well, he clawed it back to all square after the 12th (his one shot hole). My putting was superb - sank a 15 footer on the 13th to save par/half. Went one up on the 16th but back to all square after bunker trouble on the 17th. So we were back in the same situation as last week - all square on the 18th. Both hit the green in regulation, but thankfully I didn't gift him the match with a rubbish three-putt this time - finished all square for an honourable draw.

80 gross for me, 33 points, pretty pleased with that. Putting with the pencil grip was excellent, 28 putts for the round and no three-putts, can't remember the last time I putted that well. Even my chipping was decent, including knocking it to tap-in range with hybrid three times. Good signs.

4BBB Comp today, bit of a wind, but stayed dry so happy days, me and my partner played well for 39pts.

Comp was won with 46pts and normally in those conditions I’d be wondering how?

But it was the 2 lads we played with and they played really well having one of “those” days, long putts going in, both of them chipping in off the green on seperate holes, they 21pts going out and we were 1pt behind, their back 9 was excellent.

Good day overall.

No, no you've got it all wrong - the 46 points is all down to system that is wrong and fixed and impossible for anyone to win ever. No one never could get that in these conditions, they must be manipulating their handicaps or the system is biased towards them - its just so unfair.

It can't be that some players just have 'that day' could it?

I only ever seem to post on here when I’ve played well…

Going through swing changes, scoring has been bad for a few months now (not just the swing changes, started before that). Before that a half decent round for me was around 85, good was low 80s, but I’ve been scoring high 80s early 90s and my handicap has gone up by 2.

Anyway, it all clicked yesterday and I ended up scoring 79, 1 shot off my pb. Of course I hit 2-3 really poor shots, but other than that I played really well and it felt so easy. Barely had to chip because I was hitting GIR, putting was pretty good, drove it straight. Even then I still feel like I could’ve been 2-3 shots better. Won the comp, which was nice.

One thing I did change from my usual ‘winter golf play’ was to use all my wedges. I normally just use a gap wedge for everything in winter, half shots, knock down shots, full shots, rather than rising more lofted clubs digging in. But yesterday I decided to use the wedge appropriate to the yardage, and it seemed to work.

Normal service will of course be resumed next week, but for now I’m basking in the glory!
Hahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahaha 95 today with six 3 putts hahahahahahhah what a stupid game

Striking the ball really well at the moment, but struggled to get the ball to the hole on slow greens this morning, leaving at least half a dozen putts in the jaws when they were bang on line.

33 points, scoring on every hole, which could easily have been 40 plus.
