I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

At my range I believe he just buys lake balls, so a bit better than range balls, but a complete random mix. You could pull out an old ProV1, you could pull out a Dunlop. It does have a 'Convert' button in the app, but this changes the distance and doesn't touch the ball speed.

At the indoor one I used my Wilson Triads.
130 does seem very slow.

I'm in my mid-60s, not the longest of hitters, I just looked back on my last Toptracer session, was averaging 140-145 ball speed.

Are you sure you have your figures correct there?
To achieve 145 ball speed, that would require a 100mph clubhead speed with a good smash factor too, of 1.45.....
Only played with you once, at ganton, but im not seeing 100mph driver swing, that's some hitting.

That seems fairly spot on. My swing speed was measured at 90mph at the indoor Trackman last week. Reckon I'm maybe 91-92 out on the course. So yeah, that ties in with 130-135 ball speed. Best carry in that session was 214 funnily enough, with 246 total - smash factor given as 1.48 so I must have hit it pretty much out of the middle.

That’s a really handy little image. I’m stealing that for reference and goal setting my own practice. My ball speed usually sits around 150/152 and those carry numbers add up. Goal this year was get it nearer to 160 but that’s some increase in swing speed maybe I need to reconsider how I’m gonna achieve it !

It’s pretty close but not perfect and you also have to consider the launch monitor. Trackman typically measures a couple of mph slower than a GCQuad due to how they track impact. Best smash factor on Trackman is 1.5, I think Quad is more around 1.45. My one and only ball speed of 160mph on Trackman was with a 108mph clubhead speed and it also carried 270.

I usually find the 150mph ball speeds will carry over 250 with decent launch conditions on Trackman, mid to high 150’s will be over 260.

I think we must be around the same speed, when playing on Trackman courses I’m usually around 104mph and ball speed will vary between 145-153mph depending on strike. I can get high 150’s when speed training and just trying to leather it as hard as I can.

Your numbers sound very similar to mine so I guess we must be. On GC quad I am a little faster than Range Trackman.

I don’t swing out of my boots I have a relatively lazy tempo, but I definitely have more in the tank and could speed up if need be. That’s my plan when I get back home is over this year build up the speed a steadily and see where I can end up in the high 150s tipping 160!

One thing I definitely need to do is improve my launch angle, since returning to playing driving has been my biggest weakness where it used to be one of my strengths.

Which launch monitor is this?
Coz them numbers look a bit mad tbh
145 ball speed and 167yds carry, for instance

If its not trackman or GCQuad, id be taking with a pinch of salt, if its for instance a driving range type thing, the likes of parklands or even close house have

60 yards on a couple 😳

Some really low launch angles on there though suggests a loss of distance as not getting enough peak height to carry further .
I wasn’t suggesting they were great shots, just providing evidence of ball speed!

I have dialled my driver down to 9 degrees as I used to get too much height on my drives. I am thinking of putting it back up just to see what happens 😀

It’s the launch angle, some of them are launching at 8 degrees. I had a couple the other night on trackman with 154mph ball speed that only carried 180 yards as they launched at 8 degrees. Us hackers should be launching it at between 15-17 degrees or so with lowish spin (2k or so) to get our best carries.

One thing all launch monitors are good at, even the £200 ones are ball speed. All of them are within 2% of Trackman for ball speed based on the last MyGolfSpy thing I saw.

I stopped going the range as I couldn’t get my launch higher than 9*.
I thought it was the balls.
But my minus AOA dosnt help.

These were Jamies numbers using his new PRGR launch monitor yesterday.

4 hybrid
89 swing. 128 Club. 1.44 Smash and 200 yards carry which he was getting consistently.

No idea how accurate these things are but the PRGR does seem to get decent reviews considering the price.

If you don’t mind me asking the crude question how much was it. I’m intrigued into getting one for my own practice especially when I rejoin a club hopefully in a couple of months and take down the practice area.

I paid £131 for that off the John Pye Auction site LMS. It's brand new, so I think we got a bargain. They do get them on quite often so worth checking every week or so.
