I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

How soggy was it? Our place is still closed
It was fine. Never saw a puddle until we were walking off the 9th. We were on temps as the main greens are still frozen 2-3 inches below the surface.

Only the second time we’ve been on temps this winter, the improvement in the condition of the course over the last year is fantastic.

And honestly wish I hadn’t. It was purgatory. The course has been closed for over a week due to ice and frost etc. today is the first day it was open. The rain started whilst walking down to the first tee and stopped when we got to the 18th tee. I was walking off after 9 but changed my mind. I wish I hadn’t. Because of the frozen ground below the surface, the water had no where to go. The standing water was horrendous. It was nigh on the worst conditions I have played in.
However there were 3 massive points from today. The all weather glove was a thing of beauty. However that was outdone by the Spurk mat. It quite frankly was excellent. The final positive was the Stromberg shoes which I am trying out. Quite simply they are far superior to anything which I have ever worn. After what is the wettest day I have ever played in re rain and surface water. They were fantastic. The grip is astonishing.
Oh and Ave asked the club secretary if I can wear me speedos the next time it is like that. Unfortunately it’s a no no. ☹️

So the weatherman said it was going to bladder it down again. With that in mind I was coming in after 9. After nine i was sat on 20 points had a nearest the pin( 40ft from the pin, the other three PP were closer but off the green and I was the only one who. Could hit a green from 140 yds 😳🤣) and I was bone dry. Not a drop of the wet stuff til the 16th.
I made sure I had something to eat before golf. Took fluids and drunk them and opened up a tub of Salt and pepper Peanuts and cashews. They were flippin gorgeous, unfortunately the three greedy sods I played with thought the same and helped me finish them off. I really felt better having a snack or three.
A steady 36 points. But that Spurk mat is a thing of beauty.

We had our weekly 12 hole comp today, I played decently, however I was given a short game lesson by the girl I was playing with, she chipped in twice, holed two 20 foot putts and only took a total of 12 putts and 3 of those were on one hole.

First round in two weeks, first non-frozen round since Dec 28th.

Played alright tee-to-green but couldn't putt to save my life. Had a good battle in the match with my mate - 1 down a few times and kept pegging him back. Managed a birdie on the 6th with the only putt I holed all day. The greens were incredibly slow after the ice melted and all the subsequent rain - just couldn't get anything to the hole.

Was 2 down with four to play - won the 15th, won the 17th with an awesome up-and-down out of the bunker for par. Then gifted him the match with an awful three-putt on the 18th. Was absolutely fuming.

83 gross for 30 points. 35 putts for 17 holes since I picked up on the 14th. Just not good enough anymore. Have to improve my chipping and putting this year or I'll end up going backwards again.

Winter League pairs matchplay, which was tight until the 7th, when we went 4 down in consecutive holes. I won the next 4 to square the match up and they won the next two to win 2&1. Won the bye, which was solely the 18th.

Managed 12 holes yesterday before CVG got too cold and, as we were near the clubhouse, a retreat via the kitchen ensued.
Blobbed the first 2 holes as I was as stiff as a board but loosened up after that and scored 19 points on the remaining 10 including another blob where my ball hit a tree and cannons a full 40 yards 90° right and OB..
Rattling off 6 pars on the bounce after that was quite pleasing...
Looks like we might get out again on Monday....normal service may be resuming after 2 weeks of hibernation

4 Person Team (Best 2 Stableford scores) Comp today, first time out in over 3 weeks, unfortunately one of our team was called into work half an hour before our tee time.

Still played as a 3 Ball, 82 points we finished with, 92 won the Comp.

Rained on and off for 14 holes.

Played well 3 Birdies, good fun and good day out.

Thought that was the way you putted all the time? :ROFLMAO:

I only ever seem to post on here when I’ve played well…

Going through swing changes, scoring has been bad for a few months now (not just the swing changes, started before that). Before that a half decent round for me was around 85, good was low 80s, but I’ve been scoring high 80s early 90s and my handicap has gone up by 2.

Anyway, it all clicked yesterday and I ended up scoring 79, 1 shot off my pb. Of course I hit 2-3 really poor shots, but other than that I played really well and it felt so easy. Barely had to chip because I was hitting GIR, putting was pretty good, drove it straight. Even then I still feel like I could’ve been 2-3 shots better. Won the comp, which was nice.

One thing I did change from my usual ‘winter golf play’ was to use all my wedges. I normally just use a gap wedge for everything in winter, half shots, knock down shots, full shots, rather than rising more lofted clubs digging in. But yesterday I decided to use the wedge appropriate to the yardage, and it seemed to work.

Normal service will of course be resumed next week, but for now I’m basking in the glory!

Have been going through a purple patch for the last month or so. Went out yesterday full of confidence, started ok, but after 4 holes, turned to absolute 💩

I couldn’t understand what was going on, and the harder I tried, the worse it got. It was so bad, I was going to walk off after 9. Fortunately I decided to carry on, and my game came back, but it was horrible for those 4 or 5 holes, absolute purgatory.

So pleased I carried on, if I had walked in after 9, I would have spent the whole weekend stewing about it.
