I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Poor form continued today on the front 9 but luckily it was a game of doubles and me and my partner dovetailed OK to only be 1 down at the turn with neither of us playing that well. We played better on the back 9, we shot a combined -4 (2 birdies each and no bogeys) and turned the match around to win 1 up. First time in about 5 weeks that I didn't have to buy the pints so that was decent.

Not so decent was my Motocaddy trolley giving up on the 16th, motor is whirring away but the wheels won't turn even when lifted off the ground. Not sure if it's the motor or gearbox/axle that has gone and it has been making a noise for a few months now. Also not sure on the model year, I bought it in 2019 but it might be a 2017 model as the battery is square and the replacement batteries on the Motocaddy site for the M1 Pro are a different shape so not even sure if I can get replacement parts for it. Looking at the price of new trollies I might just need to get fitter and carry my bag.

Really good guys.

Had a quick look at the trolley today and it’s a 2017 model. Today the left wheel turns when off the ground but the right doesn’t and the axle isn’t turning either. When on the ground neither wheel turns.

When taking the wheels off the left axle is pulling about 4 inches out of the frame so I guess the axle/gearbox is goosed. They are £35 second hand on eBay or £55 new from Motocaddy so I’ve order a new one. We will see if that fixes it or not when it arrives.

Didn’t play but range session with Mrs M this evening using trackman and the first time hitting balls in over a month. Straight off the bat 3 shanks 🤣

Sorted it out though and hit some really good solid high draws throughout the bag and finding middle of the face with the driver, the dry drills I’ve been doing with a training club whilst away were starting to show improvement.

More importantly Mrs M had a great night, she’s starting to develop some good speed and asked me how she can improve her height/launch on tee shots. So made a little tweak to her set up, took a few shots to get used to it and boom! She hit new PBs on longest drives one after the other, her last one just tipped 201yds with rollout never her seen her smile so much. Though she got cocky and went to do it again and topped one 40yds but she did laugh at it 🤣 but was averaging about 180yds total by the end. She is starting to get the hang of pitching more as well and understanding what she is doing with regards to when she isn’t comfy over the ball.

Generally just makes me smile seeing her develop and having fun with it, especially when she took the piss out of me shanking 3 in a row 🤣

She will be giving you shots soon.😉

...I got knocked out of our Winter Singles KO - 3rd round match playing a lad (well 60-something lad) off 14 - so I was giving him 8 shots. Lost 4/2. And though I played well (only 3 over for the round) I couldn't match his 5 over 🤷‍♂️ He played really well and used all his shots to great effect  - in fact it was his best ever round. Happens.

What was nice that he said the match made him really focussed on his game - telling me that as he knew I was dead steady (we've played together a few times before), he also knew he'd probably lose if he was careless or took risks. I'll take the compliment as compensation for losing. (y)

Let me guess your reaction when he told you...

18 holes open at Knaresborough today....but only 8 people show up for the rollup. Decide to just play for a Pound on the best card in each group. Jeez....I can't hit anything. 7 pts after 6 holes.....swing change gets me to 13pts for 9 holes. Then.....when I really suck, I just try to get 30pts so I don't feel toooooo bad. 17pts on the back for 30...yea!! and the surprise, that's good enough for the Pound since the other 3 sucked more than I did. (y)(y)

I’ve had the bug that’s going around this week, basically been on the couch since last Saturday afternoon. Started feeling a bit better yesterday so thought I’d play today.

Needless to say it didn’t go well, just felt tired all the way round. 24 points with two birdies in there to be DFL in the winter league comp. Lovely. 😂

Feeling absolutely knackered now as well, not the wisest choice today.

Played early this morning, out before 8 as I had things to do in the afternoon. Freezing to begin with, but the sun was out so it warmed up by the end.

Started on fire, level par after 4 including a nice birdie 3 on the 2nd. Then the wheels starting falling off - three-putt bogeys on 5 and 6, two-footers missed on both. Made a total hash of the 7th, driving straight into the sun I just looked up way too quickly and hit a massive slice, later followed by completely duffing a chip so blobbed that one. Managed to blob the 9th too, once again hitting into the sun and lifted my head way early hitting 3 wood and topped it into the ditch. Annoyingly finish the front nine on 15 points.

Back nine was a little bit more consistent, but threw in one more disappointing double on the 15th. Nice pars on the 16th and my nemesis 18th though. 17 point back nine for 32 total. Not too bad in winter golf. 81 gross, which to be honest, a year ago I'd have been punching the air if I got that last winter. Just a bit disappointing after how well I started.

Played really well for 14 holes, 29 points despite not making a putt of any note. Par 3 15th, out of nowhere a wild slice deep into the trees. Reload and do exactly the same again. Where did they come from?

Found my first ball, pretty much unplayable, had to take a penalty drop, end up blobbing the hole. 16th was just as bad, pull my drive deep into the woods, takes 2 shots to get out of trouble, another blob.

Manage to play the last 2 ok, 33 points which is decent enough, but those 2 awful holes were a nightmare, ruined a really nice round.

As I’d played well on Friday in a match I took a card out yesterday in our roll up - and went and did another good knock - a 5 over which finds my HI down to 5.8 (just shy of my lowest ever of 5.7 a few months ago). Drops my CH off back/forward tees to 7/5. Pleasing.

What was even more pleasing that I gave myself a load of birdie chances - took three of them and another five had a look in the hole - and that my score included two doubles (both daft and sooo avoidable and both should’ve been singles).

Think this bodes pretty well for next year - now if I can just sort out my 140-160yd approaches I’d be less dependent on my short game…sure it’s a game of progress not perfection.
